Pvalue for Windows Introduction
version 1.0
Version: Pvalue for Windows 1.0
Revision date: January 6, 1994

Pvalue for Windows is a Microsoft Windows 3.1 program that computes p-values for standard statistical hypothesis tests using only summary data (e.g., sample mean, sample standard deviation,...). It is useful for computing p-values when standard statistical computer programs do not handle particular alternative-tailed tests and relevant summary information is provided or when using summary information from publications or textbooks. All numerical entries are checked for errors and some constraints are checked (e.g., normal approximation to binomial). Options for standardized tests (e.g., p-value for z-score) are included. Pvalue for Windows is designed to be a utility program that augments analyses provided by the usual statistical computer programs. The interface is easy to navigate and a comprehensive Windows 3.1 Help file is provided. Pvalue for Windows has been written by a Statistician and has been uploaded by the author.

Files included/required:
			pvalue10.txt (this documentation file)
pvalue10.wri (same content as pvalue10.txt in .WRI)
pvalbug.txt	(form to document a bug in Pvalue for Windows)
pvalreg.txt	(form to register Pvalue for Windows)

	required: pvalue.exe	(executable program)
			pvalhelp.hlp	(Windows 3.1 help file)
bwcc.dll	(Borland (c) dynamic link library for interface construction)

Distribution: Pvalue for Windows is freely distributable as long as all files listed above are included in the distribution. The easiest way to distribute the Pvalue for Windows file package is in its compressed file pvalue10.zip. Pvalue for Windows is a shareware product. Hence, you may examine Pvalue for Windows for 30 days after which time you should send in your registration fee of $15.00 in United States of America funds to:
	Jeffrey Pontius
	1926 Thornburgh
	Laramie WY 82070 USA

The registration fee is per user and a serial number will be sent to each registered user. The file pvalreg.txt has been provided in the distribution for your registration use. All registered users will be notified of updates of Pvalue for Windows and will have the option of acquiring an update by responding in writing after notification. Updates will be available on-line or from the author for a $5.00 diskette/United States shipping fee. Inquiries, comments and technical assistance may be sent via Internet to:
	PONTIUS@UWYO.EDU
I welcome any comments on the program.

Installation: Installation of Pvalue for Windows is contained in the Overview of the Program/Installation and Uninstallation section of the Help file pvalhelp.hlp accessible from File Manager. Briefly, copy pvalue.exe and pvalhelp.hlp into a directory of your choice, and copy BWCC.DLL into either the directory containing pvalue.exe or the windows/system directory. Note that BWCC.DLL (March, 1993 version) is a Borland dynamic link library and may have been located in one of your directories by a previous program. Then install the Pvalue for Windows icon in a Windows Program Group of your choice.

Reporting technical problems: Because of the computational aspect of Pvalue for Windows and of the many different hardware/software combinations under which the program may operate, technical problems are likely under some instances. The file pvalbug.txt has been provided in this distribution so that you may send me a notice of a problem, which I will attempt to solve. If you do encounter a problem within Pvalue for Windows or that has been caused by Pvalue for Windows, please fill out and send pvalbug.txt to the E-mail address above.
