ATI Technologies Announces Support for VESA DPMS Proposal as Part of the
EPA Energy Star Program

June 29, 1993 - Toronto, Ontario - ATI Technologies Inc. today announced it
would support the new VESA Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS)
proposal on all mach32 products, including the GRAPHICS ULTRA+, GRAPHICS
ULTRA PRO and other products using the ATI mach32 chip. This allows ATI
users, in conjunction with a DPMS-compliant monitor, the ability to reduce
their power consumption thereby reducing energy costs.

Currently in North America, 3() to 40% of all computer systems are left on
all night. These systems account for approximately 5% of all commercial
electrical consumption, a number which could grow to 1()% within the next
five years. These percentages highlight the importance of the Energy Star
Program's power reduction specifications. Now anyone can realize the cost
savings and protect the environment simply by adding an ATI mach32
graphics product and a monitor supporting DPMS.

"ATI protects users against product obsolescence," said Henry Quan,
vice-president of Marketing for ATI Technologies. "ATI users can take
advantage of the DPMS power management feature through a simple driver
upgrade without having to purchase a new graphics card," Quan continued.
All GRAPHICS ULTRA+, GRAPHICS ULTRA PRO or OEM products using the ATI
mach32 chip purchased since September 1992 will support the DPMS power
saving feature. System integrators and OEM customers can easily make their
system display Energy Star-compliant by using ATI mach32 cards or chips in
conjunction with a DPMS-compliant monitor.

The average 15-inch monitor when fully powered and running Windows draws
about 80 watts of power. A system with an ATI GRAPHICS ULTRA PRO combined
with a DPMS-compliant monitor can drop power consumption to less than 30
watts when the screen is inactive. This means users can realize a power
savings of almost 60% and a similar reduction in electrical costs.

In Windows, ATI customers with DPMS-compliant monitors can control three
states of power management, Standby, Suspend and Off Time, through the ATI
FlexDesk Control Panel. For DOS users, ATI provides a TSR program that
allows users to select from the same power management options available
under Windows.

ATI drivers incorporating the DPMS feature will be available later this
year on the ATI BBS at (416) 764-9404, via Compuserve (GO ATITECH) or by
calling ATI Customer Support at (416) 882-2626.
