CONNER DEBUTS QIC PARALLEL PORT TAPE BACKUP PRODUCT

LAKE MARY, FLA, May 19, 1993 -- Conner Distribution Products Group,
formerly Maynard Electronics, a unit of Conner Peripherals, Inc. (NYSE:
CNR), today introduced the Conner Tape-Stor 250MQP parallel backup
product, a 250 megabyte (MB) minicartridge tape drive that can be simply
and easily attached to the parallel printer port of a PC. Available
through Conner's extensive reseller and retail channels, the Tape-Stor
250MQP parallel product uses the industry standard QIC-80 tape format and
includes everything needed to set up and operate on most laptop, notebook
or desktop PCs within minutes.

backup solution for the PC user on the go, the company watching costs and
the mass merchandiser who wants to offer a fool-proof method for their
customers to protect valuable computer data," said Patrick Sullivan, vice

used by one person to protect the data in a notebook computer or is shared
by everybody in a department or small office, sophisticated simplicity is
what the Tape-Stor parallel product delivers."

Part of Conner's Growing Tape-Stor and Disk-Stor lines of mass market tap
backup products, the Tape-Stor parallel system can be installed in just a
few minutes. The user attaches the included parallel cable between their
PC and the tape drive, plugs the power supply into the wall, installs
Conner Backup Assist "Simply Safe" software and the system is ready to
run. The Tape-Stor parallel system also can be shared between PCs by
disconnecting the system and reattaching it to another PC. Users maintain
ready access to parallel printers because the printer cable attaches to
the back of the Tape-Stor parallel system. In addition, the use of the
industry standard QIC-80 format ensures users of compatibility of tapes
formatted on similar units, including other Conner Tape-Stor QIC-80
products.

Using a standard parallel port or enhanced parallel port (EPP), the Conner
Tape-Stor 250MQP product delivers a backup speed up to 103KB per second.

The Tape-Stor 250MQP parallel system will be available in June. Model
C250MQP includes a tape drive, a parallel cable, a wall transformer,
Conner Backup Assist "Simply Safe" software, and hardware and software
installation manuals. Model C250MQPT also includes a blank, pre-formatted
minicartridge tape. All Tape-Stor systems are covered by a one-year
warranty. Customers also have access to Conner's "24 x 7" round-the-clock
technical support.
