Sytron Introduces Automated, Server-Based NLM Backup for Novell NetWare

Sytos Preserver offers complete network data storage management

Boston, MA -- Sytron Corporation, a leading developer of high-performance
backup and archival software, today introduced Sytos Preserver, a
sophisticated data storage management solution offering network-wide
backup and restore for all workstations and servers in a local area
network.

At NetWorld '93 Boston, Hynes Convention Center, Booth #4401, Sytron
featured Sytos Preserver backing up Novell 2.x and Novell 3.11 servers and
DOS, Windows and OS/2 client workstations to multiple tape devices
attached to a NetWare server. Also, a Sytos Preserver technology
presentation was given at the Sheraton Boston Hotel (adjacent to the Hynes
Convention Center).

Sytos Preserver provides complete server-based data storage management for
local area networks running Novell's NetWare 3.11 network operating
system. Sytos Preserver runs as a NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) to
reliably back up, restore and archive individual files, directories, and
entire server volumes from multiple servers and workstations. Sytos
Preserver backs up and restores all server files including NetWare bindery
files, security information, and DOS, OS/2, NFS, FTAM, UNIX and Macintosh
name spaces, as well as DOS, OS/2 and Windows client workstations.

"We're excited to show Sytron's first full-featured, data storage
management solution for the NetWare market," stated Cimarron Boozer, vice
president of marketing and product planning. "With Sytos Preserver,
network managers are freed from loading software, initiating backups and
administering data storage management tasks from each individual
workstation in the network. Sytron is committed to providing high-end,
easy-to-use backup administration for LANs, especially as more
mission-critical data is being stored across networks," Boozer added.

Product Highlights Sytos Preserver provides users with outstanding
functionality and flexibility by offering a Windows-based interface,
centralized administration, automated operations, high performance, fast
and reliable data recovery, hardware independence, and scalability for
networks of all sizes.

* Windows-based Interface: Sytos Preserver uses a Microsoft Windows-based
user interface for "point and click" ease of use. Graphical
representations of network maps, volume and file directory trees,
procedure status, weekly scheduler, and tape rotation provide quick and
easy administration of backup, restore and data storage management tasks.
Context-sensitive help, and an on-line product manual is also available.

* Centralized Administration and Automated Operations: Sytos Preserver is
easy to install and administer from any Microsoft Windows or IBM OS/2 2.0
workstation. From a single workstation, Sytos Preserver dynamically
identifies all servers, workstations, and backup devices on the network.

* High Performance: By attaching multiple backup devices to the network
servers, performance is automatically increased. Sytos Preserver maximizes
throughput by simultaneously routing data from servers and workstations to
all available storage devices with backup speeds of up to 40 Megabytes per
minute per server.

* Fast and Reliable Data Recovery: Using Sytos Preserver's integrated
database and advanced find file capabilities, the user is able to quickly
locate files to be restored. Once a file is selected, Sytos Preserver
identifies the location of required tapes.

* Hardware Independence: Sytos Preserver supports over 75 devices from more
than 20 manufacturers with capacities ranging from 150 Megabytes to 16
Gigabytes.

* Scalability for Networks of All Sizes: Sytos Preserver automatically
detects and protects new workstations added to the network. Sytos
Preserver supports workgroups, allowing local administrators to manage
groups of servers and workstations on the network.

Key Benefits

Sytos Preserver's advanced features benefit network managers of any size
network: from a single server to the large and growing network of multiple
servers and multiple client workstations.

* Sytos Preserver's easy installation and "hands off' approach increase the
productivity of the network manager.

* Sytos Preserver's flexibility provides organizations with an easy growth
path for their evolving, heterogeneous networks.

* With Sytos Preserver's advanced data management capabilities, network
managers can easily create a backup strategy that meets their most
stringent requirements.

Sytos Preserver will be available in the second quarter of 1993. Retail
pricing of the Sytos Preserver product and upgrades from existing Sytron
products will be announced at that time.
