Quark Releases PC-Compatible QuarkLibraries
Preformatted EPS Clip Art for Use with QuarkXPress for Windows

April 13, 1993--BOSTON--Quark, Inc. has announced the release of 18
QuarkLibraries for use with QuarkXPress for Windows. Like their
counterparts for the Macintosh version of QuarkXPress, each PC-compatible
QuarkLibrary is a collection of Encapsulated PostScript clip art that can
be used in Quark XPress documents and in documents created by other
EPS-compatible applications. Pricing for Quark Libraries ranges from
$49.95 to $199.95.

QuarkLibraries are organized in the following subjects: Arts and
Entertainment; Business; Calendar; Communications; Energy and Environment;
Flags; Food and Nutrition; Health; Holidays and Religion; Home and Garden;
Leisure; Maps; Medieval Illustrated Caps; Modern Illustrated Caps;
Patterns; Publishing; Sports; and Travel.

The images contained in QuarkLibraries can be used for corporate logos,
business presentations, advertisements, newsletters, signage, and as
infographics to add visual emphasis to any publication. The graphics can
be modified by changing their scale and applying color, rotation, frames,
and skew. The EPS pictures can also be imported into other applications.

The QuarkXPress Library feature lets users save commonly used page elements
by dragging them from a document page and dropping them into an open
Library palette. Library palettes can be displayed at any time, and the
user can drag and drop library items from an open palette onto document
pages.

High Text Graphics, a typesetting firm that produces a 36-page newspaper
for an international music seminar in New York City, uses the Flags
Library to highlight relevant country information in the newspaper. Brad
Walrod, president of the company, prefers QuarkLibraries over other clip
art for its functionality. "QuarkLibraries are of excellent quality,
integrate directly with QuarkXPress, and I can easily edit them for my own
use," said Walrod. "I have also successfully used many of the images from
the Energy and Environment Library," he added.

The topical QuarkLibraries were produced by the firm of Robert Lockwood,
Inc. The illustrated caps and background patterns were designed by Quark
artists.

"We wanted to create designs that would be different from other clip art,"
said Lockwood. "With QuarkLibraries, all the pieces relate stylistically
to information content being presented and, because of that, draw the
reader into a story."

"We have received great response from our customers about the library
feature in QuarkXPress," added Fred Ebrahimi, president of Quark, Inc.
"QuarkLibraries extend this benefit by providing some excellent graphics
already saved in the library format and ready to go."

Lockwood, a founder and first president of the Society of Newspaper Design,
offers design and consulting services to newspapers worldwide through his
company, Robert Lockwood, Inc. Since 1980, he has designed more than 50
newspapers worldwide. Lockwood is also the author of the Quark Press
publication, News by Design: A Survival Guide for Newspapers, which
describes his design philosophy and details the newspapers that have
adopted it.

Based in Denver, Colorado, Quark, Inc. develops and distributes software
products for commercial publishing and graphic arts professionals around
the world. Founded in 1981, Quark is privately held.
