ADAPTEC EXTENDS MARKET REACH WITH TRANTOR SCSI SOLUTIONS

Solutions Include Parallel-To-SCSI And PCMCIA Products

MILPITAS, Calif. -- June 14, 1993 - Adaptec, Inc., a world leader in
input/output (I/O) technology, today announced the addition of
Trantor-brand products to Adaptec's existing line of Small Computer System
Interface (SCSI) solutions. The expanded product family provides desktop
and mobile computer users a wide range of high-value, low-cost SCSI
connections to peripherals such as CD-ROMs. The full power of SCSI
technology from Adaptec can now be realized in any PC computing
environment.

Adaptec's Complete Line of SCSI Solutions

Adaptec now provides the only comprehensive hardware and software product
line for PC connections to CD-ROM and Photo CD drives, digital audio tape
(DAT) and other tape drives, magneto-optical drives, removable, Floptical,
and floppy drives and scanners. All Trantor-brand products support the
DOS/Windows, Windows NT, and OS/2 environments and offer both 8-bit and
16-bit SCSI solutions for Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) and Micro
Channel Architecture (MCA). The addition of MiniSCSI family of
parallel-to-SCSI adapters, the SlimSCSI Personal Computer Memory Card
International Association (PCMCIA)-to-SCSI adapter, and the Macintosh
CD-ROM connections and software complete the most extensive SCSI offering
in the PC industry.

This wide range of SCSI solutions saves distributors and OEMs time and
money as the value of true, one-stop shopping is recognized. The
combination of ease of use and low-cost, high-performance products ensure
that Adaptec SCSI technology is available to meet any user's needs. Expert
and novice users alike are offered maximum connectivity options in the
desktop and mobile computing environments.

"Since the '80s, Adaptec has been recognized as the pioneer of input/output
solutions," said John Hamm, Adaptec's vice president of its System
Products Operation (SPO). "One of Adaptec's goals in the '90s is to
quickly respond to the market demands of its OEMs and end users. Today's
desktop and mobile PC users want low-priced, easily accessible software
and hardware SCSI solutions that ensure optimized I/O throughput while
maintaining maximum product compatibility. This extended product line
delivers these capabilities."

Advanced Parallel-to-SCSI Technology

MiniSCSI Plus, a unique, stand-alone hardware design, looks much like a
standard SCSI cable but adds full SCSI I/O capabilities to most standard
parallel printer ports. MiniSCSI Plus, along with the complete SCSIworks!
software bundle, allows users to attach as many as seven SCSI peripherals
without opening their computers. Any conventional parallel printer port is
transformed into a powerful SCSI device handler. In addition to running
SCSI devices, users can simultaneously run their printer with 100 percent
transparent printer pass-through feature of the MiniSCSI Plus adapter. The
MiniSCSI family is now available at distributors nationwide including
Ingram Micro, Merisel and Tech Data.

"Adaptec's acquisition of the Trantor-brand line clearly demonstrates the
company's commitment to offering a full range of complementary,
value-priced solutions for its customers," said Robert Tatar, vice
president of operations for Texel, a CD-ROM manufacturer located in Santa
Clara, Calif. "To maintain a competitive edge in today's marketplace,
Texel needs to work with suppliers who offer products that grow with our
customers' future compatibility needs and provide a "one-stop-shopping"
option. By choosing Adaptec, we no longer have to qualify multiple vendors
when purchasing hardware and software SCSI solutions, and this value is
passed on to our customers in the form of lower-priced CD-ROM products."

Adaptec recently acquired Trantor, a premier worldwide supplier of SCSI
interface products for the CD-ROM industry as well as the IBM-compatible
desktop, portable, and Apple Macintosh markets. Trantor is a wholly owned
subsidiary of Adaptec and is located in Fremont, Calif.
