Megahertz Shipping PCMCIA Data/Fax Modems with Innovative XJACK Design

Megahertz Leading Growth of Mobile Modem Market

Salt Lake City, Utah--Megahertz Corporation announced that it has begun
shipping its PCMCIA data/fax modems with its revolutionary, patented XJACK
design. In addition to the PCMCIA data/fax modems, Megahertz offers a
comprehensive modem line for portable computer users, ranging from
proprietary internal modems for leading portable vendors to external
pocket modems.

"We have focused our efforts on providing mobile computing users with the
best possible solutions for their data and fax communications needs," said
Ryan Ashton, Megahertz's Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
Megahertz has recognized the promise of the PCMCIA standard, and has
worked to enhance the basic form factor. "The XJACK design is the most
comprehensive PCMCIA modem solution on the market, allowing users easy
access to their communications port without bulky, awkward external
connectors or 'dongles' found on other PCMCIA modems."

XJACK, short for "extendable jack," provides a fully internal but
extendable RJ-11 jack on a PCMCIA modem card. When users are ready to
exchange data, they simply press on the exposed end of the PCMCIA card and
the RJ11 automatically ejects. Users can then connect a standard phone
cord to the modem and begin exchanging data. When finished, they simply
remove the phone cord and push the connector back into its internal,
locked position, where it remains out of sight until it is needed again.
The data/fax modem with XJACK is a PCMCIA 2.0 Type 11,111, and Toshiba
Type IV compatible credit card-sized modem.

The market of modems for mobile computers is growing rapidly. BIS Strategic
Decisions, a market research firm in Norwell, Mass., estimated data/fax
modem placements to rise from 2.4 million in 1992 to 6.6 million by 1995.
By 1995, nearly 45% of the data/fax modems placed will be portable, and
nearly 40% of portable data/fax modems placed will conform to the PCMCIA
standard.

"We feel we are well positioned to take advantage of the interest in PCMCIA
because of the undeniable competitive advantage of our PCMCIA modems with
XJACK," said Ashton. "Additionally, during our seven years in the mobile
modem market, we have built a relationship with our customers. They know
us for delivering solutions for modem users on the go, and they expect us
to be a front-runner in the PCMCIA arena."

To meet this growing demand for mobile modems, Megahertz has added a
dedicated field sales force to better serve its customers. Located in key
regions around the country, the sales force will train corporate resellers
and educate manufacturers about Megahertz and its innovative modem
designs.
