New Virage Notebook Ships--Built With Upgradeability In Mind

Altima Systems Virage Modular Notebook Offers Over 300 Configurations

Concord, CA--May 21, 1994--Altima Systems, Inc. today announced it is
shipping its new Virage notebook computer. Built with a modular design,
the Altima Virage's fourteen components allow for over 300 various
configurations of the Virage to be sold. The user can now purchase what
they need today and know the machine can be upgraded to fulfill the user's
future needs. In addition to the modular design, the Virage supports the
latest in portable technology. High performance 32-bit VESA Local Bus
Video, a Microsoft Windows accelerator, and 1MB of video RAM are standard.
The Virage also has digital audio sound on board, and is compatible with
Sound Blaster, Adlib, and the Windows Sound System to enable a mobile
business person to offer high quality, state-of-the-art presentations.
Designed to make home office communications easier, the Virage is
compatible with two Type II PCMCIA cards or one Type m PCMCIA card.

This user upgradeable notebook offers the choice of:

CPUs:     SL Enhanced i486 SX/33, DX/33, DX2/50 or DX2/66.

Memory:   4/8/16/20/32MB of RAM. 4MB or 16MB of RAM standard, can be
upgraded to 32MB through 4MB or 16MB memory card options.

Storage:  User upgradeable hard disk drives in: 120, 200, 250, 340, and
524MB of storage. There is a removable 1.44MB 3.5" diskette
drive/secondary battery slot.

Display*: Upgradeable LCD panels: 9.5" STN Mono LCD, VGA 640 x 480, 64 Gray
Scales; 9.5" Dual Scan STN color, VGA 640 x 480, 256 Colors; or 9.5 " TFT
Active Matrix Color LCD, VGA 640 x 480, 256 Colors. (*Requires factory
installation.)

The Virage is bundled with CoSession for Windows, PC-Doctor Diagnostics,
City Streets for Windows, MS DOS 6.2, and Microsoft Windows 3.1. A
carrying case for the Virage notebook is also included.

Designed with a removable 85/86 key keyboard, the layout of the cursor keys
is in an inverted "T". The Virage keyboard has 12 function keys and
dedicated Home, End, PageUp, and PageDown keys. The notebook includes a
built-in 25MM PS/2 trackball.

A quick charge removable NIMH battery pack (1 5 hours with power off, 4
hours with power on) powers the Virage and offers battery life of 4 to 5
hours for the monochrome models and 3 to 5 hours with the Dual Scan STN
color or TFT Active Matrix Color LCD displays. Battery life can be doubled
with "Double-life Technology" by adding a second battery.

The Altima Virage dimensions are 11.3"W x 8.7"D x 1.6"H. The various models
weigh: 6.0 lbs. monochrome models, 6.5 lbs. Dual Scan STN models, and 6.9
lbs. for the TFT models. The interfaces supported by the Virage notebook
include Parallel, Serial, SVGA (supports up to 256 color at 1024 x 768),
the PS/2 keyboard port, and a 160-pin docking connector. Other options
available for the Virage from Altima Systems include a docking station,
PCMCIA cards, 14.4Kpbs Data/Fax modems, 2400/9600bps Data/Fax modems,
ethernet, SCSI, Flash memory, Sram, DC car adapter, additional NIMH
battery packs, and a port replicator.

configuration range from $1849 to $5801. The Altima Virage is available
