APEX DATA DEBUTS 16-BIT PCMCIA AUDIO ADAPTER

Mobile Connectivity Leader Provides Industry's First Full-Featured
Soundcard Bringing Multimedia Capability To Portable Computer Users

PLEASANTON, Calif. (6/27/94) ------- Addressing a growing demand for "audio
to go" from the mobile computing market, PCMCIA connectivity leader Apex
Data is debuting the industry's first full-featured, 16-bit audio adapter
for laptop, notebook and palmtop computer users. Apex's Audio Express, the
first such device to gain approval from the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) and the first OS/2-compatible PCMCIA sound adapter, will
be on display at PC Expo, June 28-30, Jacob Javits Convention Center, New
York, Booth # 971.

Audio Express will begin shipping this month and will retail for $399. It
will be available from Merisel, Ingram Micro, Tech Data and other national
resellers.

With more mobile computers being utilized as presentation tools and in
text-to-speech and MIDI synthesis applications, there has been a
pronounced need for an audio adapter capable of being utilized with .WAV
files, multimedia extensions and voice annotation of documents. Apex's
Audio Express consists of a PCMCIA Type ll audio adapter card connected to
a small, detachable microphone module, miniature speakers,
line-out/headphone jacks and is connected to a mobile computer through a
PCMCIA Type ll interface. Compatible with DOS, OS/2 and Windows, Audio
Express provides .WAV file recording and playback either on its own or
through multimedia functions in the operating system and text-to-speech
translations which "reads" a text file via a synthesized human voice.

"Increasingly, the needs of the mobile computing market are beginning to
mirror those of the sophisticated desktop computer user and audio
capability has been a much asked for capability," said Apex President John
Chess. "Until now, there really hasn't been a viable solution to meet this
need. We believe Apex's Audio Express will provide the necessary
capabilities to make audio an effective tool for mobile professionals."
