100 Native PowerPC Applications Shipping for Apple's Power Macintosh

Adobe, Aldus, Claris, WordPerfect Among Dozens of Leading Software Vendors
Shipping New Versions of Products Optimized for New RISC-based Macintosh
Computers

CUPERTINO, California--June 16, 1994--Apple Computer, Inc today announced
that 100 software application programs developed specifically for it's new
Power Macintosh family of personal computers are now shipping. These
applications --- of ten referred to as "native" applications--- take
advantage of the industry-leading power of the Power Macintosh systems and
are growing in number impressively. They join thousands of Macintosh,
MS-DOS, and Windows applications that run unaltered on the new systems,
introduced just three months ago.

The new applications represent a diverse range of popular software
categories including, publishing, general business and productivity,
education, multimedia, technical markets and entertainment. Vendors
shipping new applications include Adobe Systems' popular Adobe Illustrator
product, Aldus Corporation's PageMaker and FreeHand programs, Claris
Corporation's ClarisWorks and Claris Impact, and WordPerfect Corporation's
WordPerfect.

"With more than one hundred native applications shipping in less than 100
days, we are off to a strong, start in garnering worldwide developer
support," said Guerrino De Luca, vice president marketing, for the
AppleSoft division. "With a wide array of exceptional applications on-base
today and even more in the on-deck circle, we're providing Macintosh
---and MS-DOS customers--- with an increasingly compelling reason to sign
up with Power Macintosh."

"The Power Macintosh platform has allowed us to supercharge our popular
graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator, and deliver localized native
versions around the globe," said John Kunze, director product marketing
for Adobe's Application Products Division. "The resulting solutions of
Apple's Power Mac and Adobe's native software brings our mutual customers
incredible graphic performance."

Apple expects the majority of mainstream Macintosh applications --- such as
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Dimensions, Adobe Type Manager,
Claris MacWrite Pro, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Quark XPress---
to be available in native mode by late summer. By Fall 1994, Apple expects
hundreds more applications to join the growing roster of new native Power
Macintosh applications. Worldwide developer support and enthusiasm for
Power Macintosh remains strong; over 22 native applications, for instance,
have been developed in Japan alone. Each week, new developers from other
platforms are calling Apple to find out how to port applications to the
Power Macintosh and join the Macintosh family.

To make the transition easy for Macintosh customers, the majority of
software vendors are offering aggressively priced upgrade programs from
their 680x0 version software to native products for Power Macintosh
systems. The programs allow customers to purchase Power Macintosh
computers and 68K applications today with the assurance of easily
migrating to native Power Macintosh versions of the software as soon as
they become available.

Power Macintosh is the next-generation of Macintosh personal computers
based on PowerPC, a new RISC-based microprocessor family developed by
Apple, IBM and Motorola. Power Macintosh computers bring new levels of
performance and functionality to personal computing at low prices. Apple
plans to offer a full Line of Power Macintosh products from entry-level to
high-end systems and many upgrade paths for 680x0-based Macintosh
customers.
