ARCADA ANNOUNCES FIRST DATA MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS
NT ADVANCED SERVER

New Strategy for Enterprise-Wide Centralized Data Management Launched with
New Storage Exec Software

LAKE MARY, Fla., April 25, 1994 -- Arcada Software, Inc. today announced
the first enterprise-wide backup solution for Microsoft's Windows NT
Advanced Server networks. Storage Exec for Windows NT Advanced Servers
minimizes administration costs by enabling users to configure, schedule,
monitor and control local and remote data storage from a central location.
Scalable to accommodate small, medium or large networks, Storage Exec
optimizes hardware investments, reduces network traffic, ensures timely
execution of data storage activities and is the first product to provide
support for an easy transition from OS/2 LAN Manager to Windows NT
Advanced Server by backing up both systems.

Storage Exec is designed to allow enterprise network managers to centrally
administer data management systems. Centralized administration provides a
global view of the network for total protection of data across an
enterprise. Storage Exec is the first product in Arcada' s new storage
management strategy.

Storage Exec

Storage Exec was developed by Arcada in response to Microsoft's needs for
an improved backup solution for its 1200 plus servers on a Windows NT
Advanced Server LAN. Microsoft's Information Technology Group (ITG), the
company's IS organization, assisted in the development of the product.
Arcada and Microsoft have successfully worked together on previous
projects; Arcada developed the Windows NT Backup Utility and the popular
Backup Exec for Windows NT. Storage Exec utilizes Backup Exec for Windows
NT as the data management engine.

"Our new product was designed to provide a solution for companies
downsizing from the mainframe or for those migrating from OS/2 LAN Manager
to Windows NT Advanced Server," said Bill Schroeder, CEO of Arcada
Software. "Arcada's expertise in developing Windows NT data management
products places us in a unique position. We are the only company to offer
a truly compatible solution for enterprise-wide Windows NT Advanced Server
networks."

Key Features and Benefits

Storage Exec offers users a variety of tools for data management, including
these unique features:

* Centralized Administration: This feature allows the administrator to
configure local and remote backup domains and to set server/share backup
and tape rotation policies from one centrally located workstation. The
backup domains reduce network traffic, localize media availability and
storage, and optimize hardware use. Centralized configuration ensures
consistent backup sessions, policies and procedures for all servers and
shares on the network.

* Pooling Available Tape Resources: Storage Exec pools all available tape
servers and devices within a backup domain. These devices are used on a
first-come, first served basis, optimizing use of all available hardware.
The tape drives can run concurrently, maximizing data throughput in the
allotted time.

* Management Information Reports: Storage Exec generates reports that
assist the administrator in configuring, monitoring, maintaining and
improving the effectiveness of the network's data storage activity. Areas
covered in reports include, configuration, session summary, device
maintenance, media management and load balancing.

The suggested retail price is $2,385 for a three-tape device license.

Arcada's Storage Management Strategy

With the introduction of Storage Exec for NT Advanced Server, Arcada
continues to deliver products as a part of their strategy for
enterprise-wide data management. The broad-based initiative provides total
protection and management of data across a heterogeneous enterprise and
minimizes the costs of ensuring system integrity.

"During our frequent conversations with network administrators, they asked
for mainframe tools at the LAN level," said David Krinker, Business Unit
Director of Arcada. "We are the first to ship a product that meets this
need. And we will continue to provide administrators with tools that
efficiently enable them to manage expanding networks."

Arcada Software develops data protection and storage management software
that operates across multiple desktop and client-server environments,
including those from Microsoft Corp. and Novell, Inc. Arcada markets its
products worldwide under the Backup Exec and Storage Exec brand name to
OEMs, system integrators, value-added resellers, retailers and large
corporate users. Arcada has facilitates in Lake Mary, Florida, Ann Arbor,
Michigan and San Luis Obispo, California.
