ARCADA OFFERS SERVER-BASED BACKUP SOLUTION FOR WINDOWS NT

Advanced Backup Features, Performance Enhancements, and Autoloader Support
added to Backup Exec for Windows NT AS

LAS VEGAS, May 4,1994 - Responding to the needs of enterprise LAN customers
using Windows NT Advanced Server, Arcada Software, Inc. has announced a
new server-based version of Backup Exec for Windows NT AS. The latest
addition to Arcada's line of Windows NT data management programs, Backup
Exec for Windows NT AS offers larger capacity with autoloader support,
increased performance with data compression and multi-drive concurrent
backup, and an enhanced user interface which supports UNC server/share
naming.

Backup Exec for Windows NT AS is a continuation of the successful alliance
between Arcada and Microsoft. Arcada developed the Windows NT Backup
Utility, and the two companies continue to work closely in the development
of Backup Exec for Windows NT, the first data storage program for the
Microsoft network system.

Backup Exec for Windows NT AS supports most of the leading
autoloaders/changers, enabling Windows NT users for the first time to
obtain the benefits of these high-capacity storage tape backup systems.

Backup Exec for Windows NT includes a variety of unique features, such as:

* Global Network View recognizes all servers and shares by their UNC names,
making it easier for the user to identify which shares are selected for
backup and/or restore, without mapping or re-mapping drive letters.

* Data Compression improves performance and maximizes tape efficiency.
Users have two choices for data compression: through the software --
compress the data before it is sent to the tape drive; or via the
hardware.

* Disk Grooming moves inactive files off the hard disk drive onto tape
according to the latest access date and user-defined specifications. This
function frees hard disk space for files more often accessed and provides
archival storage for important but dormant information.

* Multi-drive Concurrent Backup enables users to schedule concurrent backup
to multiple tape drives attached to a single workstation or server. Users
can duplicate backup sets, send sets of data to different tapes (for
example, to back up different departments at the same time), or minimize
the required time to capture data on tape by running different scheduled
jobs simultaneously. A "do it now" backup on critical data can be sent to
one tape drive even when another tape drive is busy with a scheduled
backup.

* Loader support, which is available separately, provides random access to
the loader's tape slots, so groups can be created for backup, file
migration, and restore operations. The autoloader module option may be
added to Backup Exec for Windows NT AS whenever the user is ready to add
this hardware to his network.

* Multiple Verification Methods provide two options to validate backup or
restore operation. Users can select the faster CRC verification method to
validate tape integrity, or they can compare data on the tape to the data
on the disk, byte by byte.

* Full Windows NT File System Support enables Backup Exec for Windows NT to
back up all Windows NT file systems: FAT, HPFS and NTFS. Support includes
backing up all Macintosh files and the Windows NT Registry.

Our Windows NT expertise coupled with our close relationship with Microsoft
enables us to develop storage management solution that specifically
address Windows NT networks," said David Krinker, Business Unit Director.
"With our new Backup Exec and Storage Exec for Windows NT Advanced Server,
Arcada provides Windows NT network administrators with a choice of
cost-effective data management programs that enable them to easily manage
their networks and increase productivity."
