Arcada and Microsoft Collaborate on Network Backup Agent for Windows

Arcada to Enable Enterprise Backup of Windows "Chicago" Workstations From
Both Windows NT and NetWare Networks

Lake Mary, Fla.--May 31, 1994--Arcada Software and Microsoft Corporation
announced today that Arcada's Backup Exec technology will be offered for
the next release of the Microsoft Windows operating system, code named
"Chicago," enabling centralized data protection for all "Chicago" desktops
in Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server and Novell NetWare environments.
By providing network-based backup technology in the Windows operating
system, "Chicago" will provide complete and reliable data protection for
customers using Arcada's Backup Exec for Windows NT Advanced Server and
Backup Exec NLM for NetWare products. This marks the first time a desktop
operating system will be specifically designed to enable enterprise wide
network backup.

Windows "Chicago" support is another addition to Arcada's comprehensive
protection for enterprise local area and wide area networks, including
MS-DOS, Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT, OS/2, UNIX, and
Macintosh based workstations. Kevin Azzouz, president of Arcada Software,
said, "Windows 'Chicago' is destined to be the de facto network client for
Windows NT based and NetWare networks. Arcada's network backup solutions
uniquely provide centralized backup of Windows 'Chicago' workstations for
both." Azzouz added, "Microsoft's integration of Arcada's network backup
agent into Windows 'Chicago' continues the strong relationship between the
two companies."

"Windows 'Chicago' is designed to be highly manageable, which includes
providing great support for remote backup," said Brad Silverberg, vice
president of the personal operating systems division of Microsoft.
"Arcada's Network Backup Agent for Windows 'Chicago,' gives our customers
using Windows NT Advanced Server or NetWare more options for managing
their client backup solutions."

Arcada and Microsoft recently co-developed Storage Exec for Windows NT to
satisfy the Microsoft information technologies group's needs for
centralized management of backup processes for more than 1,000 Windows NT
Advanced Servers. Arcada also developed the backup utilities in both
Windows NT and MS-DOS 6 for Microsoft.

With more than 2 million customers worldwide and more than 10 years of
experience in developing data protection and storage management software,
Arcada has created software under the brand names Maynard MaynStream,
