Award Software Announces CardWare 2.0

Software Solves PCMCIA Compatibility Problem

June 6, 1994 -- MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA - Award Software International, Inc., a
leader in PCMCIA software, today announced CardWare 2.0, next generation
software that solves the nagging PCMCIA problem of incompatibility.

Once installed on the hard disk, CardWare 2.0 uses a unique Card
Information Structure Parsing (CIS-Parsing) system to ensure compatibility
between any host device such as a notebook or handheld computer and more
than 250 PCMCIA cards, including all well-known flash memory, fax/modem,
rotating media, and LAN cards.

Unlike database card libraries used by competitors, Award's CIS-Parsing
ensures that future PCMCIA cards will remain compatible as they are
introduced.

CardWare 2.0's CIS-Parsing also makes it the only software to allow
unlimited "hot swapping" - removing one PCMCIA card and replacing it with
another. "There is no need to reconfigure or re-boot. CardWare has
automated a difficult and unpredictable process and made it as easy as
using a toaster." commented Greg Paley, Award general manager.

CardWare 2.0 goes beyond any competing product in terms of eliminating
difficult, intimidating PCMCIA card installation steps. It provides the
PCMCIA industry's first audio-enhanced, graphical user interface (GUI),
making the installation of a PCMCIA card readily comprehensible to
virtually all end users.

According to Paley, "This is not only the first PCMCIA software with a
pretty face, it is accompanied by an informative voice." Unlike the
primitive screen representations of competitive offerings, CardWare 2.0's
is a modern, graphical representation of the inserted

The GUI interface visually keeps the user informed of each step in the
installation or removal process. A series of audio signals tells the user
when his card has been recognized, configured, and the host's resources
have been assigned. It virtually eliminates the mystifying situation that
sometimes occurs with competing software when a card is inserted and
absolutely nothing happens.

CardWare 2.0 is Award's first major new product since the company's 1993
acquisition by GCH Corp., and according to Chairman George C. Huang,
CardWare 2.0 is expected to accelerate Award's momentum in corporate
environments and in situations where mobile communications is essential.

Available immediately, CardWare 2.0 has begun shipping to many of Award's
OEM customers worldwide including Toshiba Europe, Advanced Micro Devices,
SCM, National Instruments, Allen-Bradley, Boca Research, Cogent Data
Technologies, SDT, Inc., and Greystone Peripherals. John James, vice
president of marketing and sales stated that Award will ship about 40,000
units in June, the strongest first response to any product in Award's
11-year history.

The company plans to market both to OEM companies who will install CardWare
2.0 prior to shipping, and to PCMCIA card manufacturers who will bundle
the software with their cards to ensure compatibility with any host
machine.
