BORLAND INTRODUCES dBASE FOR WINDOWS

New DOS Version of Database Standard Also Unveiled

NEW YORK--June 27, 1994--Borland International Inc. this week will
officially launch new versions of dBASE, the world's most widely used
database software for personal computers.

The new versions--dBASE 5.0 for Windows and dBASE 5.0 for DOS are being
demonstrated here at the PC Expo trade show, which is expected to draw
more than 100,000 corporate and government users of computer hardware and
software. dBASE for DOS will become widely available in retail outlets in
July, while dBASE for Windows is scheduled to ship this summer.

Over the past decade, dBASE has become the worldwide standard for PC
database management and software application development with an estimated
15 million users worldwide, according to the market research firm Computer
Intelligence/Infocorp. Corporations and governments around the world use
dBASE programs as part of business-critical operations such as accounting,
order entry, inventory and manufacturing systems.

"The new versions of dBASE will provide customers with the most advanced PC
databases ever developed," said Philippe Kahn, chairman and CEO, Borland
International. "These new products will allow customers to upgrade to the
newest technology and upsize to the more advanced client-server computing
environments."

"With over 15 million dBASE users worldwide, Borland is in a position to be
very successful in the database market this summer with these latest
releases," said Chris LeTocq of Computer Intelligence/InfoCorp. "By
providing major upgrades for both platforms, Borland is addressing the
specific needs of DOS and Windows customers."

Full Compatibility with the dBASE Standard

With the largest PC database installed base, no single database application
development tool represents a greater investment than dBASE. dBASE for
Windows was designed to protect and enhance that investment by providing a
smooth transition path for users and by leveraging users' investment in
knowledge, applications and data.

Since dBASE for Windows is the dBASE language standard, it is fully
compatible with previous versions of dBASE, so dBASE III PLUS and IV users
can move from DOS to Windows and client/server at their own pace. No other
product delivers this level of compatibility to the worldwide installed
base of dBASE users.

"This level of compatibility and flexibility is unmatched in the
marketplace," said Carl Hane, MCI Telecommunications Co., Rye Brook, NY.

"dBASE for Windows has given developers the migration path we've been
waiting for," said Don Kranz, Kranz Database Consulting, Kingwood, Texas.
"I've done other migrations from DOS to Windows and this is the first time
a Windows conversion has let us capitalize on applications already
developed in the DOS environment."

dBASE 5.0 for Windows

dBASE 5.0 for Windows provides the most advanced tools for managing data
and building database applications for Windows. It lets dBASE users and
developers move all of their existing knowledge and data instantly into
the Windows and client/server environments. New and existing dBASE users
will benefit from the products many innovative new capabilities, including
Two-Way-Tools, an open Plug-and-Play architecture, object-oriented dBASE
extensions, a scaleable Borland Database Engine, and a host of productive
ease of use tools. dBASE for Windows makes object-oriented development
approachable by extending the powerful English-like dBASE language with
full object-oriented capabilities for building robust Windows and
client/server applications.

dBASE 5.0 for DOS

dBASE 5.0 for DOS is the fastest, most advanced DOS database management and
application development system. It combines 32-bit performance, 150 new
language elements for Windows-like interface design, a powerful new
event-handling model, and an integrated compiler for building and
distributing the fastest and most sophisticated DOS database applications.
It also includes new tools that allow end-users to manage their data more
effectively--without any programming. dBASE 5.0 for DOS is ideal for the
millions of dBASE users looking to get more out of their existing
applications written in dBASE.

Interoperability Between DOS and Windows

The Windows and DOS versions of dBASE 5.0 represent the next generation of
the dBASE language standard. All dBASE m PLUS and IV data, applications
and code run in both dBASE 5.0 for Windows and DOS. Customers will be able
to seamlessly share data across networks and develop both DOS and Windows
applications in the familiar dBASE language.

Pricing and Availability

dBASE 5.0 for Windows and DOS will be available through all major
distribution channels. New users may purchase dBASE 5.0 for DOS for a
suggested retail price of $795.95. The upgrade price is available to
registered users of dBASE and Paradox for $149.95. dBASE 5.0 for DOS will
be widely available in stores in July.

New users may purchase dBASE 5.0 for Windows for a suggested retail price
of $495.95. Registered users of dBASE and Paradox can purchase dBASE 5.0
for Windows at an upgrade price of $199.95. dBASE for Windows is expected
to be released this summer.

Suggested retail prices are in U.S. dollars and apply to the United States
