Caligari Offers Special Deal to Windows-Based 2D Graphic Artists

trueSpace is an easy and affordable companion for 3D graphics

Mountain View, CA - June 28, 1994 - A special arrangement announced today
by Caligari Corporation lets users of any Windows-based 2D graphics
software package purchase Caligari trueSpace for just $499 (trueSpace
retails for $795). trueSpace's easy-to-use interface and sophisticated 3D
modeling, rendering and animation capabilities make it a perfect companion
to traditional 2D paint and draw packages, such as CorelDRAW or Fractal
Design Painter. The trueSpace companion upgrade program ends September 30,
1994.

"In many ways, 3D is the natural form of human-computer interaction. 3D
graphics extend beyond the boundaries that 2D graphics programs can impose
on imagination and communication. Yet artists have been reluctant to adopt
3D, mainly because of price and ease-of-use. With this special trueSpace
price, Caligari removes the obstacles typically associated with 3D, " said
Roman Ormandy, president of Caligari Corporation.

trueSpace provides a graceful 3D upgrade path for artists using 2D graphics
software in that it combines the real-time direct manipulation of objects
and professional quality output with an easy-to-learn, icon-based
interface. This interface operates in real time and immerses users in a
three dimensional perspective workspace where they can shape objects as
naturally as if working with clay. In trueSpace artists can navigate
around the space with a mouse, making changes as they go, and can easily
view a 3D object from all angles, rotate it in space, and directly bend,
twist, mold and manipulate it.

Photorealistic hybrid ray-tracing allows for effects like refractions and
reflections of light on water or glass. Textures such as wood or sand, and
bumpy surfaces such as orange peel or stucco, combine with shadows and
transparencies to add realism.

trueSpace incorporates modeling features including free-form deformation
and point-editing, allowing the user to twist, bend and mold simple shapes
like cylinders and spheres into sophisticated, organic objects. Visible
lights and cameras can be positioned and multiple objects can be edited at
once. Users can create beveled metallic 3D logos and paint on 3D surfaces
simply by picking up a brush.

Broadcast-quality animations can be created directly with the mouse simply
by dragging objects around or with the visual time editor, a
spreadsheet-like form for synchronizing complex animations. Final
animations can be output to videotape or saved in AVI/Video for Windows
format for playback on any Windows machine.

Caligari trueSpace supports standard image formats like .BMP and .TGA, as
well as popular 3D formats including .DXF, 3D Studio, WaveFront, Imagine
and LightWave. Alpha channel output is compatible with image-editing and
nonlinear editing software.

Caligari trueSpace requires a 386 CPU (486 is recommended) with a floating
point co-processor, Windows 3.1 or higher, 4MB RAM and 6MB of free hard
disk space. A Windows graphics accelerator is recommended. trueSpace
retails for $795 and is sold directly by Caligari Corporation and by
authorized distributors and resellers internationally.
