CASTELLE INTRODUCES THE LANPRESS 2P EXTRA PRINT SERVER

The next generation low-cost/high-performance print server solution

Santa Clara, CA--June 27, 1994--Castelle, Inc., a leading supplier of
multi-protocol print servers and self-contained fax servers, for Novell
NetWare networks, today announced its next generation price/performance
print server solution: The LANpress 2P EXTRA.

The LANpress 2P EXTRA provides all the performance and functionality of
Castelle's entire NetWare network EXTRA print server family with
additional next generation features all at a low cost.

Castelle has built the LANpress 2P EXTRA, upon the foundation of the EXTRA
multiple protocol product family, to include simultaneous support of a
broad variety of Novell and UNIX environments. Further, the LANpress 2P
EXTRA has incorporated an enhanced DMA (Direct Memory Access) for faster
data throughput. The newest features in the LANpress 2P EXTRA include:
IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel ports, Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP), and simultaneous 802.2 and 802.3 Ethernet protocol
support.

"Castelle has developed a low-cost platform in the LANpress 2P EXTRA that
conforms to all the network management standards and continues to combine
the same functionality and features of earlier Castelle print servers,"
said Mike Petrovich, product manager of Castelle's print server products.

Castelle incorporated two high-speed bi-directional Centronics parallel
ports in the LANpress 2P EXTRA, that conform to the IEEE 1284 industry
standard. The IEEE 1284 connections will ultimately allow any network user
to obtain complete printer status information from his/her workstation.
The LANpress 2P EXTRA gives users the ability to connect two print servers
to two high speed parallel ports without performance degradation.

Another industry standard supported on this version of LANpress is
SNMP--SNMP is a well-documented network management protocol currently
being used by most network management systems. A printer MIB (management
information base), for the SNMP, will allow software vendors to develop
standardized network print management applications.

The LANpress 2P EXTRA simultaneously supports both 802.2 and 802.3
protocols, which will soon be added to the entire EXTRA print server line.
Castelle' s EXTRA multiprotocol print server line includes both external
and internal units. The LANpress products are compact devices that have
connection capabilities up to four printers--all of which may be operated
simultaneously without loss of throughput--to the Novell network using
serial and/or parallel ports. The JetPress products are internal print
servers that easily install into the optional MIO/XIO slot on the back of
Hewlett-Packard printers, including the latest LaserJet 4(M) Plus. High
speed is maintained by using HP's I/O interface, bypassing the parallel
ports.

Price and Availability

Priced at $499 for the Ethernet version (sku #66298600501) and $599 for the
Token Ring version (sku #66298600502), the LANpress 2P EXTRA is now
available and is backed by a two-year warranty.
