CLARIS EXPANDS FILEMAKER PRO DATABASE FAMILY WITH NEW SERVER AND RUNTIME
VERSIONS

FileMaker Pro Server to support as many as 100 users while delivering
dramatic performance improvements

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 9, 1994 -- Claris Corporation announced today its
plans to add two new products to its award-winning FileMaker Pro database
product family: FileMaker Pro Server for Power Macintosh and a Solutions
Development Kit (SDK) for FileMaker Pro Macintosh and Windows solutions.

FileMaker Pro Server will support up to 100 concurrent Macintosh and
Windows licensed FileMaker Pro users over an AppleTalk network, providing
higher performance and scalability for growing small businesses and larger
companies with expanding workgroups. Claris plans to ship a Windows
version (Netware Loadable Module for Novell networks) of FileMaker Pro
Server by the end of this year.

Faster data access via Power Macintosh and 68000 Macintosh for existing
FileMaker Pro 2.0 and 2.1 users

Up to 100% faster than previous versions of FileMaker Pro, the Server
version is a completely new FileMaker Pro database engine. FileMaker Pro
Server has been designed to specifically host FileMaker Pro files to
improve both network performance and capacity. Network intensive tasks
previously handled locally on a FileMaker Pro network, such as indexing,
will be off-loaded to the FileMaker Pro Server, dramatically reducing the
amount of data traffic that passes over the network.

FileMaker Pro Server performance improvements fully leverage Power
Macintosh RISC and 68020 Macintosh technology, which allows for numerous
database operations to take place simultaneously using asynchronous I/O
and multiple processing threads.

FileMaker Pro Server is completely "plug and play," and is fully compatible
with FileMaker Pro 2.0 and 2.1 for Macintosh and Windows applications.
FileMaker Server users do not have to reconfigure existing FileMaker Pro
database files.

Network administration tasks such as monitoring of server usage levels,
closing files and disconnecting users, can be accomplished by a designated
user at the server location or from any Macintosh or Windows computer on
the network.

"Claris has paid close attention to solving the needs of work groups that
need to share data with a flexible, simple, yet powerful solution," said
Steve Pollock, Claris vice president of worldwide product marketing. "In
short, it's now possible to simply take any FileMaker Pro database and
deploy it across a 1 00-person workgroup without modification or
programming."

FileMaker Pro Server Requirements and Availability

FileMaker Pro Server (AppleTalk network module version) will be available
in July through authorized Claris resellers and dealers at a suggested
retail price of $1499. The new version includes the Server version disks
and FileMaker Pro 2.1 v.3, an update that optimizes usage of the server
version. FileMaker Pro Server will require a Macintosh ll or higher (Power
Macintosh or Quadra AN with 8 MB RAM recommended) with at least 4 MB RAM.

FileMaker Pro Solutions Development Kit (SDK)

Today, there are hundreds of FileMaker Pro-based solutions for the
business, home and education market that are available through third-party
developers, many of whom are members of the Claris Solutions Alliance
(CSA). To help foster the distribution of these popular specialized
FileMaker Pro solutions, Claris will offer a special CD-ROM Solutions
Development Kit (SDK) to CSA members. The FileMaker Pro SDK will enable
users to run customized FileMaker Pro Macintosh and Windows solutions
without having to purchase the FileMaker Pro software at an additional
cost.

FileMaker Pro SDK will be available this July and will be offered to
qualifying commercial developers at $499 (royalty-free license) directly
through Claris Corporation. Qualified corporate site users of Claris may
also purchase the FileMaker Pro SDK.

The FileMaker Pro database product line, which includes FileMaker Pro 2.1
for Macintosh, FileMaker Pro 2.1 for Windows, and the FileMaker Pro Q&A
Translator, has won over 20 major industry awards.

Last March, the product was honored as Best Business Application by the
Software Publisher's Association (SPA) Critics Choice Codie Awards for
1994.
