CONNER'S TAPE-STOR 4000 MINICARTRIDGE BACKUP SYSTEM OFFERS LOWEST COST PER
MEGABYTE FOR SCSI APPLICATIONS

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 14, 1994 -- Conner Tape Products Group, a unit of
Conner Peripherals Inc. (NYSE:CNR), today added a SCSI-2 minicartridge
tape backup system to its Tape.Stor family of tape backup systems packaged
for retail sales. The Tape.Stor 4000 Minicartridge, designed for high-end
stand-alone computers, workstations and small- to mid-size servers,
includes Conner Backup Exec for DOS and Windows software.

"With a data transfer rate of up to 54MB per minute and up to 4GB of
compressed data capacity, the Tape-Stor 4000 Minicartridge is unique,"
said Peter Knight, Conner senior vice president of business and
development. "It fills the need for cost-effective, high transfer rate
solutions in the 1 GB to 4GB range that are not effectively addressed by
any other retail solution. This product provides users with much needed
speed and storage capacity at the lowest cost per megabyte. It provides
DAT capacity and performance at a lower price."

The newest addition to the Tape.Stor family, the Tape-Stor 4000
Minicartridge is based on Conner's SCSI-2 minicartridge tape drive
(CTM4000). The drive is an extension of Conner's complete family of
one-inch-high, direct drive DC2000 tape drives featuring high performance,
high reliability and quiet operation. The new Tape.Stor product is
available in internal and external models and complements the company's
recently announced platform for floppy interface minicartridge tape
drives.

Conner's new platform for floppy interface products supports capacities
from 250MB to more than 1.7GB, offers both QIC and AccuTrak compatibility,
and paves the way for its next generation of tape drives.

"Conner is committed to developing cost-effective solutions for evolving
markets. Storage-intensive applications and today's powerful operating
systems have driven the requirements for high-performance SCSI solutions,"
said Knight. "Our new Tape-Stor 4000 Minicartridge system provides a
comprehensive, feature-packed solution to meet these needs."

Key features of Conner's Tape.Stor 4000 Minicartridge include:

** "Precision Burst" For Reliable Operation

Conner developed a proprietary intelligent head positioning process, called
"precision burst," for precise tracking at high densities. During
precision burst preformatting, servo reference bursts are placed at the
beginning and the end of the tape. These bursts are used by the tape drive
to accurately position the thin film MR (magneto-resistive) head.

** Extensive Capacity -- Up to 4GB

The new tape drive supports 400-foot 900 Oe QIC-Wide media, prewritten
using the precision burst process. QIC-Wide media, expected to be
available from Sony in July 1994, is used to attain up to 4GB of storage
capacity.

Media (900 Oe, 400') Native Capacity Compressed Capacity
-------------------- --------------- -------------------
QIC-Wide 2GB 4GB
QIC Standard 1.6GB 3.2GB

** Level Six ECC for Data Integrity

An interleaved level-six RS-ECC (Reed-Solomon Error Correction Code) is
used to attain a hard error rate of less than 10-1 s. This comprehensive
process is superior to the level-three ECC typically found in competitive
products and eliminates the need for costly RAW (read after write)
components.

** FastSense for Optimal Performance

FastSense, a unique Conner feature, allows the tape drive to automatically
sense the host system's fastest available data transfer rate and then
logically select from three discrete transfer rates -- 450KB, 300KB or
200KB/sec. This process maximizes system throughput by eliminating tape
repositioning, typical when tape drives operate faster than host
computers.

** Proven Data Management Software

The software included in the Tape.Stor 4000 Minicartridge system, Conner
Backup Exec, is a full-featured solution that contains powerful tools to
protect data on either stand-alone systems or servers in DOS or Windows
environments.

The Tape.Stor 4000 Minicartridge system includes a tape drive, software,
user's guide and installation manual. In addition, the internal model is
packaged with a SCSI ribbon cable and mounting kit for 5.25-inch drive
bays.

The external model features an integrated universal power supply that
enables products be used anywhere in the world, regardless of
international power requirements. An autoranging capability allows it to
automatically adjust to either 120 or 220 VAC and from 50Hz or 60Hz. By
integrating the power supply, Conner eliminates the need for a wall
adapter. The external model also includes a SCSI interface cable and power
cord.

Pricing and Availability

The Tape.Stor 4000 Minicartridge system (Model TSM4000) will be available
in August 1994 through Conner's authorized distributors and retail chains,
including Best Buy, CompUSA, Computer City and Office Depot. The
manufacturer's suggested retail price is $695 for the internal drive and
$795 for the external model.
