CONNER EXPANDS RETAIL TAPE DRIVE OFFERING WITH TAPE.STOR 700 BACKUP SYSTEM

NEW YORK CITY, June 28, 1994 -- Conner Tape Products Group, a unit of
Conner Peripherals Inc. (NYSE:CNR), today added the Tape.Stor 700 to its
family of tape backup systems packaged for retail sales. The Tape.Stor
700, designed for high-end standalone computers, workstations and small
servers, is a comprehensive backup solution. The system includes a 700MB
capacity tape drive, Conner Backup Exec software for DOS and Windows,
installation hardware and documentation.

The Tape.Stor 700 is compatible with the QIC-3010 standard and backward
read compatible with both AccuTrak-120/250 and QIC-40/80 physical tape
formats. It joins other minicartridge products in the Conner Tape.Stor
family, including the floppy-interface Tape.Stor 250, a 250MB tape backup
solution, and the Tape-Stor 4000 Minicartridge, a 4GB system featuring a
SCSI-interface. Also included in the Tape.Stor family are products based
on data cartridge, DAT drive and DAT autoloader technology.

Key features of the new Tape.Stor 700 include:

High Capacity -- Up to 900MB

The new tape drive supports 400-foot 900 Oe media, including the new
QIC-Wide media to attain more than 900MB of storage capacity with data
compression. QIC-Wide media is expected to be available from Sony in July
1994. See chart for media type and capacity.

Media (900 Oe) Native Capacity Compressed Capacity
-------------------- --------------- -------------------
QIC-Wide Tape 445MB 900MB
Extended Length Tape 346MB 700MB
Standard Tape 255MB 510MB

FastSense for Optimal Performance

The Tape.Stor 700 writes data at a rate of up to 9.5MB per minute and is
capable of either a 500Kbps or 1Mbps data transfer rate depending on the
capabilities of the floppy controller. A proprietary Conner feature,
FastSense allows the tape drive to automatically sense the speed of the
host system and then use the fastest available data transfer rate.

SoftSelect for Convenience.

In addition, SoftSelect enables the minicartridge drive to be used in
single or multiple floppy disk drive systems without requiring any
additional components.

Conner Backup Exec for Data Protection

The software included in the Tape.Stor 700 system, Conner Backup Exec, is a
full-featured solution that contains powerful tools to protect data on
either standalone systems or servers in DOS or Windows environments.

In addition, the Tape.Stor 700 features an industry leading MTBF of greater
than 100,000 hours and lower acoustic noise (less than 45dBA) than tape
drives offered by competitive manufacturers. The tape backup system is
available in internal and parallel port versions. The internal version,
can be installed in 3.5-inch by one-inch-high bays or in half-height
5.25-inch slots using accessories from Conner Tape Products Group.

The Tape.Stor 700 system includes a tape drive, software, user's guide and
installation manual. In addition, the internal model is packaged with a
third-drive select floppy interface cable and mounting kit for 5.25-inch
drive bays.

The parallel port model features an integrated auto-sensing power supply
that enables products be used anywhere in the world, regardless of
international power requirements. This capability allows it to
automatically adjust to either 120 or 220 VAC and from 50Hz or 60Hz. By
integrating the power supply, Conner eliminates the need for a wall
adapter. The external model includes a power cord.

Availability and Pricing

The Tape.Stor 700 system (Model TSM700) will be available in August through
Conner's authorized distributors and retail chains such as Best Buy,
CompUSA, Computer City and Office Depot. The suggested retail price is
$499 for the internal drive and $599 for the external parallel port
models.
