COMPUTER PERIPHERALS, INC. TO BEGIN SHIPPING ViVa 14.4 DATA/FAX/VOICE
MODEM

Company Adds Voice Capability At No Extra Charge

NEW YORK CITY, June 27 -- Forging new ground by offering voice capability
at no charge with all of its modems, Computer Peripherals Inc. today
announced a new high-performance internal 14.4 bytes per second data/FAX
and voice modem for $99 expected street price.

CPI will begin shipping the ViVa 14.4 data/fax/voice modem in July to its
network of computer resellers.

The newest modem features 14.4bps data and fax transmission speed, thus
minimizing phone line costs, and a fax-forwarding function that allows
users to retrieve faxes remotely. An easy-access slide switch allows the
user to change the communications port without removing the modem.

Windows Fax/Voice software provides the capability to send faxes from
within any Windows application, and also features fax on demand and fax
forwarding, previously available only on more expensive fax cards.

With the voice capability, the modem becomes a telephone answering machine,
complete with a voice/fax messaging system featuring password-protected
voice and fax mailbox functions.

The modem is packaged with award-winning FaxWorks communications software
and is compatible with a variety of today's popular application software
programs.

Like all ViVa modems, the internal data/fax voice modem is backed by a
five-year limited warranty and comes with a special offer for Compuserve,
America Online, Delphi and Genie software.

"We believe adding voice at low cost will be attractive to end-users as
well as systems integrators. The success of Compaq's Presario systems
proves that this is the direction the market is going," according to Mike
Zachan, president.

Data compression is made possible through V.42bis and MNP5 data
compression, and error detection and correction is achieved via V.42 and
MNP2-4 technology standards.

The modem can achieve speeds up to 57,600bps because of its automatic speed
negotiation feature that selects the most efficient combination of data
and error correction. It is fully compatible with the Hayes "Ar' and
Enhanced "AT" Command Set, the de facto industry standard, and also is
compatible with Group 3 EIA (Electronic Industry Association) standards
for the older Class 1 and newer Class 2 fax devices.

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Computer Peripherals, Inc. is a leading
manufacturer of modems for the IBM PC and compatible markets. Since its
founding in 1982, the company has earned a reputation as the
price/performance leader, having produced high-quality products at the
industry's most competitive prices.
