COMPUTER PERIPHERALS INC. DEBUTS ViVa 14.4 PCMCIA DATA/FAX/VOICE MODEM

Voice Capability Added At No Extra Charge

NEW YORK CITY, June 27, 1994 -- Leading modem supplier Computer
Peripherals, Inc. today announced a new high-performance data/FAX and
voice modem in the credit card-size PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card
International Association) format for portable and notebook personal
computer users.

CPI's ViVa 14.4 PCMCIA modem, scheduled to ship this summer, offers voice
mail capabilities and communications software at no extra cost.

The lightweight 1.12-ounce modem is a Type II PCMCIA and includes a 14.4
kilobytes per second transmission rate for both data and FAX
transmissions, thus minimizing phone line costs. Users also can retrieve
faxes remotely with the modem's fax forwarding feature. Error-free data
transmission is possible via MNP24 (the advanced Microcom Networking
Protocol) and V.42 (the standard set by the CCITT or International
Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee) technology.

Packaged with the modem is award-winning FaxWorks communications software
for Windows, making it compatible with a variety of today's popular
application software programs. It is designed for use with IBM laptop and
notebooks PCs, and supports a variety of dot-matrix and laser printers
with multiple fonts.

"To keep pace with today's competitive global market, you must have
convenient and user-friendly access to computers and FAX machines," said
Mike Zachan, president. "Our newest modem turns the portable PC into an
answering machine, combining the easy access of voice technology with the
high-speed capability of industry standard compatible modems.

"With one single line, you can send and retrieve phone messages, send faxes
and communicate with on-line services from anywhere, all at one low
price."

Product Features

The new ViVa PCMCIA modem offers the best of all worlds, including speeds
of 14.4kps from within any application to EIA (Electronics Industry
Association) Class 1 and Class 2 FAX compatibility.

Featuring automatic protocol negotiations, it adjusts to various speeds and
fully complies with CCITT standards, making it compatible with almost any
dial-up modem. This automatic speed negotiation selects the most efficient
combination of data and error correction to obtain speeds up to 57,600
bytes per second using V.32bis, V.42bis and MNP5 data compression and V.42
and MNP24 error detection and correction.

A wide range of automatic functions are offered, including auto line
monitoring and retrain capability, auto gain control and auto self
diagnostics.

Price and Availability

The new PCMCIA modem will be available next month with an expected street
price of $250 at most computer and office product superstores and retail
outlets. Like all ViVa modems, it is backed by a limited five-year
warranty and comes with a special offer for Compuserve and Prodigy online
software.
