DeLorme launches Version 2.0 of MapExpert with completely revised and
updated nationwide map database

FREEPORT, Maine; June 20, 1994--DeLorme Mapping has just released Version
2.0 of its professional desktop mapping application, MapExpert. The new
version features a completely revised and expanded map database of every
city, town, and rural area in the country.

MapExpert 2.0 for Windows is now available to the public in retail stores,
mail-order catalogs, and directly from DeLorme. The retail price is $495.

On a single CD-ROM, MapExpert provides a comprehensive, seamless map
database of the entire United States, together with software that lets
users customize, scale, and print an unlimited variety of high-quality
maps for any business need.

The database in MapExpert has been completely updated to provide the most
current maps available, including thousands of streets and developments
that didn't exist a few years ago. A staff of more than 50 computer
mapping technicians has been at work since MapExpert was first released in
August, 1992, updating and refining the database. In the process, it has
grown from 480 MB to 646 MB, taking full advantage of the CD-ROM medium.

The database contains up-to-date maps of every place in the country and
includes more than 12 million street segments and 1.1 million geographic
and man-made features. Maps include city and town names; highway, street,
and road names; railroads; mountains, rivers, lakes, and streams; and many
prominent buildings and monuments.

The maps themselves have been enhanced to make them more attractive and
useful. They now delineate urban areas and population centers and display
elevation lines to give users a sense for the lay of the land. At any
time, users can call up a map legend for a key to the elements they are
viewing on the screen.

In addition, presentation of the data has been enhanced to make maps more
useful at lower levels of magnification in Version 2.0. These enhancements
to the road network will make it easier for users to visualize appropriate
routes between various destinations.

MapExpert users can quickly find a map of any spot in the US by searching
for a place name, a zip code, or a telephone area code and exchange. Maps
can be viewed and printed at dozens of different scales, ranging from a
coast-to-coast panorama down to a level that clearly shows individual city
blocks. As the user zooms in, increasing levels of detail are displayed.
Address ranges are available in more than 300 metropolitan areas.

The application software includes powerful functions that allow users to
print high-quality black-and-white or color maps; to annotate, highlight,
update, and customize maps; and to place and print notes on maps. A
special printing function tiles the printout of large maps so that an
ordinary 8-1/2" by 11" printer can used to make a mural map measuring
3-1/2" by 4-1/2".

Working with a map at any scale, users can add text, property lines, new
roads, proposed developments, notes, shaded areas, new geographical
features, common mapping symbols, or other details. When they customize
maps, MapExpert users are not altering the underlying database--instead,
they are creating overlay files that can be printed, saved to disk, and
edited at a later date.

Users may freely reproduce MapExpert maps for personal and in-house
business use. They can also copy maps to the Windows clipboard or save
them as bitmaps that can be imported into other applications.

MapExpert can also be linked to the Global Positioning System with the
addition of a GPS receiver and the GPS MapKit software available from
DeLorme. This enables users to track their direction of travel, speed, and
altitude and to display their locations anywhere in the United States on
DeLorme's incredibly detailed maps.

Registered users of MapExpert can upgrade to Version 2.0 for $49 by calling
DeLorme at 1-800-452-5931. Users who purchased Version 1.0 after August
16, 1993, will receive the upgrade at no charge.

MapExpert 2.0 comes on a single CD-ROM. The product requires an IBM or
compatible 386 PC or higher, CD-ROM drive, VGA graphics display, mouse, 2
MB of RAM, 4 MB of available hard-disk space, Windows 3.1, and MS-DOS 4.01
or higher. A Windows-compatible printer is recommended.
