DIAMOND INTRODUCES 64-BIT ACCELERATION TO ITS SPEEDSTAR LINE OF GRAPHICS
CARDS

SpeedStar 64 Provides VLB Performance on an ISA Bus

April 8, 1994, Sunnyvale, CA -- Diamond Computer Systems, Inc., has
expanded its SpeedStar line to include a new 64-bit graphics accelerator,
the SpeedStar 64. Reaching 7 million WinMarks on Ziff-Davis' WinBench
version 4.0 and 19 million WinMarks on version 3.11, this fast ISA card
provides VLB performance. Available in two configurations, 1MB upgradable
to 2MB and a 2MB version, the SpeedStar 64 speeds up Windows and other GUI
applications while displaying true color graphics and flicker-free refresh
rates.

64-Bit Processing

The SpeedStar 64 combines the advantages of 64-bit graphics processing
technology, provided by Cirrus Logic's CL-GD5434 graphics controller, with
the affordability of fast, cost-effective DRAM. The 64-bit connection
provides enhanced Windows performance for graphics functions such as
BitBLTs, full 256 raster operations, line drawing, and cursor control. A
16-bit pixel output provides for true-color display and optimal refresh
rates simultaneously.

"The SpeedStar 64 is an excellent accelerator for those who want a
cost-effective, 64-bit solution," said Bill Wong, Diamond's vice president
of marketing. "VLB performance is now available in ISA cards."

True Color, Flicker-Free Refresh

The SpeedStar 64 2MB version provides up to 75Hz refresh rates with 16.7
million colors at 800x600 resolution, 65,656 colors at 1024x768 and 256
colors at 1280x1024. The 1MB version supports refresh rates of up to 75Hz
with true color at 640x480, 256 colors at 1024x768 and 16 colors at
1280x1024.

The SpeedStar 64 is ideal for multi-platform corporate environments with
software driver support for Windows 3.1, OS/2 v2.1 and Windows NT. The DOS
driver support includes Lotus 1-2-3 v2.x and v3.x, AutoCAD 9, 10, 11, and
12, MS Word 5.0 and WordPerfect 5.1. In fact, the SpeedStar 64 features
linear drivers. Commonly found only on high-end graphics cards, these
drivers feature an efficient design which saves on hard disk space. It is
also equipped with simple installation software and WinMode, a software
shell for monitor and display configuration.

Equipped with a VESA feature connector, the SpeedStar 64 offers complete
compatibility for Diamond's award-winning VideoStar full-motion video
capture, compression and playback card.

"Green PC" Power Savings

Included with the SpeedStar 64 are Display Power Management Signaling
(DPMS) utilities for DOS and Windows which control power consumption for
VESA compliant monitors, thereby conforming to Energy Star and VESA
guidelines. DPMS allows a monitor to be placed in a reduced power standby
mode after a predetermined time of no activity, and eventually to be
completely shut down. Diamond also provides a custom screen saver with the
Diamond Windows Power Management utility.

Price and Availability

The suggested retail price for the 1MB version of the SpeedStar 64 is $195,
and the 2MB version is $235. A 1MB upgrade is available through Diamond
for $80. It will be shipping to retail and OEM customers by April 20,
1994.

Warranty and Service

The SpeedStar 64, as with all of Diamond's graphics cards, is backed by a
five-year limited warranty. Technical assistance by phone is available six
days a week, and 24-hour support is available through the 23-line bulletin
board service (BBS), CompuServe and America OnLine electronic services.
