DATAPRODUCTS SHIPS UPGRADED LZR 1580 AND LZR 2080 PRINTERS WITH ENHANCED
VIRTUAL PRINTER TECHNOLOGY (VPT)

WOODLAND HILLS, California, April 25, 1994 -- Dataproducts Corporation
today announced that is it shipping upgraded versions of its LZR 1580 and
LZR 2080 laser printers. The new printers incorporate an upgrade to
Dataproducts' proprietary network printing technology, Virtual Printer
Technology (VPT). The enhanced VPT offers paper bin selection, PSERVER for
Novell 3.x, Macintosh printing through Novell spooler, font customization
in PCL, enhanced LPD and other benefits.

The new, enhanced printers will be demonstrated for the first time at
Networld + Interop, May 4-6, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth #4589,
South Hall B.

Using enhanced VPT, network administrators can customize each virtual
printer to draw paper from a specified bin. According to Jim Christian,
Director of Marketing, "This feature is especially important in UNIX,
Novell and VAX environments where tray selection is not part of the driver
system."

The addition of PSERVER simplifies installation and greatly expands Novell
3.x connectivity, particularly on large networks. Using PSERVER, print
jobs can now be spooled directly to the printer, saving intermediate
steps. Macintosh users can also spool large print jobs through the Novell
Spooler ATPS NLM, eliminating the wait while jobs are printing.

With improved PCL parameters for virtual printers, users can have
customized fontspace, typeface, symbolset, height, style, strokeweight and
VMI. These features greatly enhance ASCII print output.

Enhanced LPD can be directed to any virtual printer for PostScript and PCL
printing. Full queuing capabilities and all virtual printer customization
features are available. LZR 1580 and LZR 2080 printers installed in PC
TCP/IP environments (running lpr) can take full advantage of VPT. Using
Enhanced LPD, UNIX users can take advantage of multiple virtual printers.

According to Christian, "The new upgraded printers will also incorporate
simplified IP address assignment, customized virtual printer names and
independent interface ports. Despite adding all these new features, we're
offering the upgraded LZR 1580 and LZR 2080 at the same competitive
prices. These new upgrades, along with our upgraded maintenance program,
new technical support program, and soon-to-be-announced on-line support,
are all part of Dataproducts' commitment to be a leader in network
printing," he added.

The upgraded, Ethernet-ready printers are priced starting at $4315 for the
LZR 1580, and $4915 for the LZR 2080. Current users of these printers can
gain full access to the new, enhanced features by ordering an upgrade kit
for $349. The kit includes new controller firmware, new print server
firmware, and a new installation and configuration manual. Kit
installation by a Dataproducts field technician is optionally available.
