DATAPRODUCTS INTRODUCES ENHANCED 8524 "TOUGHWRITER"
780 CPS MATRIX PRINTER WITH PCL3 TO REPLACE HP'S RUGGEDWRITER

WOODLAND HILLS, CA, June 9, 1994 -- Dataproducts Corporation today
announced it will introduce at PC Expo, June 28-30, in Booth 551, an
enhanced version of its 8524 high performance matrix printer, nicknamed
"ToughWriter", for high-volume printing applications up to 15,000 pages
per month.

The 8524's emulations include industry-standard Hewlett-Packard 2235
RuggedWriter 480 with PCL3, Epson LQ-2550 and IBM 2391.

"The enhancements we added to the 8524 printer, including PCL3 emulation,
make it a direct plug and play replacement for HP' s RuggedWriter," said
Jim Christian, director of marketing. "This product meets the needs of a
market segment no longer supplied by HP. Customers who currently have
matrix printer requirements or will eventually need replacements for their
existing HP printers can now obtain an equivalent product from
Dataproducts."

Letter quality printing is produced by the 8524's 24-wire print head. Other
features include graphics resolution up to 360 dpi, ten resident fonts, 13
resident barcode symbologies, compressed print up to 24 cpi, programmable
vertical spacing in 1/360 inch steps, and six print speed/quality
combinations up to 780 cps. A dual parallel/serial interface provides
superior interconnect flexibility.

Christian added, "The popular emulations supported by our new, enhanced
8524 ensure that it will work with virtually any major applications
software. The print quality, speed and durability of this product make it
the replacement printer of choice in any installation previously serviced
by HP' s discontinued RuggedWriter. It' s fast and built to last."

The 8524's exceptional paper handling includes the ability to print on up
to 27 lb stock and up to 9-part forms. Continuous forms up to 16 inches
wide are supported as are cut sheets in letter, legal, A3, A4, B4 and B5
sizes. Paper handling features also include zero tear-off, paper park,
autoload, autoscroll and label print mode.

Of the paper handling, he commented, "The 8524 is specifically designed to
minimizes waste. Label mode minimizes the chance of snagging
pressure-sensitive labels. The zero-tear feature allows transaction
processing without ejecting blank forms. Paper park allows cut sheets to
be printed without removing continuous forms. These features virtually
eliminate discarded pages, significantly reducing overall printing
costs."

A unique zoom mode feature lets you easily reduce or enlarge the size of
printed characters from 66 percent to 1600 percent. Christian said, "Now
you can fit a large spreadsheet on a single sheet of paper or make fine
print easy to read at a glance."

Options include pull tractors, a single-bin cut sheet feeder, RS-422-A
interface and a paper stacking shelf.

The 8524, scheduled for release in July, 1994, will carry a list price of
less than $3000.
