DATAPRODUCTS TO DEMO PAGE-PER-SECOND PRINTING WITH TYPHOON 60 LASER
PRINTER

WOODLAND HILLS, California, June 9, 1994 -- Dataproducts today announced it
will demonstrate the Typhoon 60, a page-per-second (60 page-per-minute)
laser printer, at PC Expo, June 28-30, in Booth 551.

The Typhoon 60 features duplex (two-sided) printing with resolutions of 300
or 400 dpi on letter, legal or ledger (11" x 17") sized paper. The durable
print engine, manufactured by Dataproducts' parent company, Hitachi Koki,
is ideally suited for high volume environments that require duty cycles of
up to 1,000,000 pages per month.

The printer features PhoenixPage (PostScript emulation) and PCL5 emulation.
Resident typefaces include 42 PostScript fonts and 20 PCL5 fonts, as well
as Virtual Font Cartridges, an entire on-line library of font sets
compatible with the most popular application packages.

The Typhoon 60 is designed for high-volume, uninterrupted printing. The
operator can load paper into one input tray while the printer is pulling
paper from another input tray. Toner can also be added to the machine
while it is printing. These features significantly reduce printer downtime
and increase productivity.

The printer uses Dataproducts' proprietary Virtual Printer Technology (VPT)
to simultaneously emulate up to 64 virtual printers. Each virtual printer
can be configured to fulfill the specific needs of an individual or work
group. VPT also offers concurrent support for Novell IPX, Apple EtherTalk,
UNIX, TCP/IP and DEC LAT and 21 major operating systems.

The Typhoon 60's RISC-based imaging controller features a dual processor
architecture for maximum performance. The intelligence of the controller,
unlike that of conventional controller designs, is resident on an internal
80 MB hard disk. The printer' s internal 1.44 MB floppy disk is used to
update the printer's operating system when software is enhanced to provide
greater functionality. For an annual fee of $495, customers will receive
upgraded software for the Typhoon 60 every six to 12 months.

The printer is supplied with two 500-sheet input hoppers, a 2,000-sheet
input hopper, a 500-sheet output stacker, a 1,500-sheet output stacker
with jogger. An optional 2,000-sheet input hopper brings the printer's
total paper capacity to 5,000 sheets. The Typhoon 60's standard
configuration includes 16 MB of memory (expandable to 32 MB) with
parallel/serial ports or Ethernet.

The Typhoon 60 is scheduled for release in August, 1994, and will carry a
list price of $95,000.
