EFI ELECTRONICS ANNOUNCES STRATEGY TO PROVIDE FIRST OPEN ARCHITECTURE UPS
PRODUCTS TO MONITOR AND MANAGE ITS, AND COMPETING, DUMB AND SMART UPSs ON
A NETWORK

SALT LAKE CITY--June 27, 1994--EFI Electronics Corp. today announced that
it will soon begin shipping a family of UPS products to allow network
managers to monitor/manage multiple brands of both smart and dumb
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) on a network.

EFI will begin shipping three initial products under its open architecture
UPS environment in the third quarter of 1994. These products include
NetTrax XMP, a Novell NetWare/Windows-based UPS power monitoring and
management program for use on both file servers and Windows workstations;
Agent X, a program designed to communicate with competing smart (ie.,
microprocessor-controlled) UPSs; and NodeTrax, which when used in
conjunction with NetTrax XMP, allows power monitoring of voltage
regulators, surge protectors and management of dumb (dry contact closure
type) UPSs.

According to Cris Buck, UPS product manager, EFI's open architecture
strategy will provide systems administrators a level of monitoring and
management capabilities previously unavailable.

"Presently, network administrators have to implement multiple
monitoring/management packages if they have more than one brand of UPS on
their LAN," Buck said.

"And if they're using dumb UPSs," Buck continued, "forget it. Now for the
first time, LAN managers will be able to monitor and manage all of their
UPSs, regardless of brand, regardless of whether or not they're smart or
dumb, all from one point."

NetTrax XMP will run under Novell NetWare 3.1 or higher and will be the
first UPS software to allow monitoring and management on both file servers
and Windows workstations. Additionally, NetTrax XMP will be the only
product to provide management and monitoring of other major UPS brands,
including APC, Tripp Lite, Best, and Exide.

NetTrax XMP will be available in licenses of 10, 50 and 100 nodes. NetTrax
XMP is slated to begin shipping in the third quarter of 1994 at prices
beginning under $250.00.

According to Buck, Agent X software is under development for several
competing UPS brands. The initial Agent X products are also scheduled to
begin shipping in the third quarter at prices of less than $100.00.

NodeTrax, is a hardware product similar in shape to a standard plugstrip
surge protector. NodeTrax will be connected to both a dumb UPS and a
NetTrax XMP-loaded file server or workstation. Through this set-up, a
network administrator will be able to do full input power monitoring, UPS
mode (on battery, off battery, 10w battery) monitoring, and UPS power
management. NodeTrax is also slated to begin shipping in Q3 1994 at prices
under $100.00.
