ACTIONLASER 1600 BRINGS HIGH-RESOLUTION AND RISC-BASED PROCESSING TO
EPSON'S PERSONAL LASER PRINTER FAMILY

TORRANCE, Calif., May 23, 1994 -- EPSON expanded its line of personal laser
printers today with the addition of a new 600 dots per inch (dpi) model,
the ActionLaser 1600. The 6 page per minute (ppm) laser printer offers
RISC-based printing, PCL 5e emulation and 45 built-in scalable fonts that
make it ideal for most personal and business applications that require
professional printing quality.

"The ActionLaser 1600 will carry on the tradition of the ActionLaser
family's reputation for superior print quality, value, reliability and
ease of use," said Edith Dees, group product manager, printers, EPSON.
"And, as more businesses migrate toward graphics-oriented applications, we
expect this printer will offer those users the output and performance they
expect."

With EPSON's optional PostScript Level 2-compatible module, the ActionLaser
1600 achieves 77 gray scale graphics capabilities and rivals 1200 dpi
printing in gray scale. Utilizing the standard PCL 5e emulation, the
printer offers 33 gray scale graphics printing capability. The ActionLaser
1600 is equipped with 2MB of standard memory, expandable to 64MB using
industry standard SIMMs.

As with the ActionLaser 1500, the EPSON ActionLaser 1600 comes standard
with a parallel port and a serial port and accommodates a third interface
option, such as Ethernet, twinax, coax, parallel or serial. EPSON's
Ethernet interface board delivers direct connect printing capabilities to
a Novell NetWare network without requiring a dedicated personal computer
to act as a print server. The Ethernet interface board has a
manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $499. With the optional
EPSON Talk interface kit (MSRP $399), the ActionLaser 1600 can also be
connected to a Macintosh computer. The EPSON Talk kit includes a Local
Talk interface and PostScript Level 2 compatible module. These user
installable interface options make it possible to connect the ActionLaser
1600 to four separate computers.

Featuring the same, popular form factor as the ActionLaser 1500, the
ActionLaser 1600 also offers a 150-sheet, multi-size paper tray and an
optional 250-sheet letter-size tray.

The ActionLaser 1600 is available through EPSON's network of authorized
dealers for a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1,199.

The ActionLaser 1600 and ActionLaser 1500 will comprise EPSON's line of
personal laser printers. EPSON also offers other personal printers such as
the EPSON Stylus 800 ink jet and ActionPrinter line of dot matrix
printers.
