NEW EXABYTE PRODUCT WINS QIC DEVELOPMENT STANDARD

BOULDER, Colo., June 2, 1994 -- Exabyte Corp. (NASDAQ: EXBT) today
announced that the recording format of its EXB-2502 Quarter-Inch Cartridge
Tape Subsystem has been adopted as a development standard by the Technical
Committee of Quarter-Inch Cartridge Drive Standards, Inc. Titled
QIC-3110-MC. The new standard defines a format capable of recording 2
gigabytes of data on a 400-foot, 1400-oersted barium ferrite mini data
cartridge in a 3.6-inch half-high form factor tape drive. With
compression, the EXB-2502's capacity doubles to 4 gigabytes.

"Hard drive capacities of PCs and small workstations continue to grow,
meaning increased amounts of data storage are needed," said Marshall
Barton, Exabyte's vice president of marketing. "We're pleased to be on the
leading edge of this upward growth path."

Announced in October 1993, the EXB-2502 is designed for integration into
low-to-midrange networks and workstations, and high-end standalone PCs
that support data-intensive applications. In response to the needs of
these demanding environments, the EXB-2502 has a rugged quality
construction, high reliability of 200,000 hours mean-time-between-failure
and a bit error rate of less than one in every 1015 bits read.

In addition to having the highest capacity of any announced drive in its
class, the EXB-2502 also offers a fast transfer rate of 505 kilobytes per
second, or more than 1 megabyte per second with compression. General
availability of the EXB-2502 is scheduled for third quarter 1994.

The EXB-2502 reads the QIC-3050-MC standard developed for Exabyte's initial
quarter-inch product, the EXB-2501. New media, including an
Exabyte-certified EXATAPE mini data cartridge, will support the EXB-2502.

Quarter-Inch Cartridge Drive Standards, Inc. is an international trade
