EXABYTE ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC THIRD-PARTY SUPPORT FOR THE NEWLY AVAILABLE
EXB-210 8MM TAPE LIBRARY

Leading Storage Management Software Vendors Announce Industry-Standard
Solutions for UNIX and NetWare, Worldwide

NETWORLD+INTEROP, Las Vegas, NV, May 4, 1994 -- Exabyte Corp. (NASDAQ:
EXBT) today announced the availability of the EXB-210 8mm tape library,
supported by comprehensive third-party storage management software
solutions for UNIX, NetWare, OS/2, Windows, DOS and Macintosh
environments. The following third-party vendors have announced storage
management software that supports the EXB-210: AT&T, Apunix, Willow Blue
Chip, Legato, Cheyenne, Palindrome, Delta Micro Systems and Avail.

"Third-party software support for the EXB-210 has been phenomenal," said
Marshall Barton, vice president of marketing for Exabyte. "As we ship the
EXB-210, Exabyte is pleased to announce software support for the widest
variety of operating systems and platforms, suitable for any networking
environment."

Combined with software provided by these vendors, the EXB-210 library
offers a seamless solution for automating operations such as unattended
backup and restore, HSM (hierarchical storage management), scheduled
archiving, online image storage, remote vaulting, disaster prevention and
data collection.

The EXB-210 incorporates one or two 5.25-inch half-height 8mm drives with
10 8mm data cartridges and a fixed cartridge location for automated drive
cleaning or an additional data cartridge. Containing random-access
robotics, the EXB-210, with software support, offers users automated
storage management operations, parallel processing and fault tolerance.

When configured with two EXB-8505 8mm Cartridge Tape Subsystems, the
EXB-210 provides automatic, random access to 10 8 mm cartridges (or 11
cartridges when using the fixed cartridge location). Using 11 cartridges,
the EXB-210 can store from 55 gigabytes of native data to 110 gigabytes of
compressed data (at a 2:1 ratio). With Exabyte's EXB-8505 drives, the
library's uncompressed aggregate transfer rate is 1 megabyte per second or
3.6 gigabytes per hour.

When configured with Mammoth, Exabyte's soon-to-be released 20-gigabyte
half-height 8mm tape drive, the EXB-210 will provide random access to 220
gigabytes of native data or 440 gigabytes of compressed data (at a 2: 1
ratio), and will transfer data at a native aggregate rate of 6 megabytes
per second or 21.6 gigabytes per hour.

The EXB-210 also includes a newly designed robotics mechanism with an
intelligent gripper that picks a tape from the data cartridge magazine and
mounts it in less than 10 seconds; a user-friendly LCD (liquid crystal
display) interface and control panel which expand the library's management
functions and a key lock and security interlock for data protection.

With its new modular design, the EXB-210 allows for easy serviceability
-which equates to low cost of ownership. The drives, power supply and data
cartridge holder all snap easily into the body of the library, and can be
removed and replaced effortlessly. The EXB-210 can be horizontally rack
mounted or can stand alone as a tower unit. An optional bar-code reader is
available, allowing for file and media management, both online and
offline.

"In addition to the enhanced features and high reliability of 200,000 mean
cycles between failure, the EXB-210 is ideally suited for the demanding
environments of high- performance workstations, networks and midrange
computer systems," said Peter Behrendt, chairman, president and chief
executive officer of Exabyte.

The EXB-210 is shipping today to OEMs and peripheral integrators. Suggested
end-user pricing for the fully configured EXB-210 ranges between $18,000
to $25,000, depending on configuration. General availability through
Exabyte's distributors is scheduled for third quarter 1994.
