Gateway 2000 cuts prices on selected HandBooks by up to $750

DX2-40 and SX-33 HandBooks are Windows-ready, best values in class

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., June 28, 1994 -Gateway 2000 today announced
significantly lower prices on two models of its award-winning HandBook 486
subnotebook PCs. The company cut the price of the HandBook DX2-40 to $
1,499, a reduction of more than $750, and cut the HandBook SX-25 to $999,
a reduction of more than $650.

"The HandBook 486 was a great value before, and now they're absolutely

"They're the best Windows PC for on-the-road work because they're

The HandBook DX2-40 sports a 40MHz Intel DX2 processor, 8MB RAM and 130MB
hard drive. The HandBook SX-25 uses a 25MHz Intel 486SX processor and
includes 4MB RAM and an 80MB hard drive Both models also come with a two
NiMH battery packs, an external floppy drive and a leather carrying case.

Each HandBook also includes the integrated EZ Point pointing device, a
floppy drive/parallel port and printer adapter, serial port and PS/2-style
external keyboard connector. The display is a bright, 7.9" diagonal
backlighted LCD. ALL HandBooks have a suspend-resume feature that lets the
user shut down the system, then later return to the exact application spot
with a single keystroke.

The HandBook sports a Type II PCMCIA expansion slot that supports "hot
swapping," the ability to insert or remove PCMCIA devices without
rebooting. Gateway offers PCMCIA peripherals including an external VGA
adapter, 14.4bps and 9600/2400bps fax/modems, Token Ring and Ethernet
network adapters.

Battery Charging

The HandBook battery can be fast-charged outside of the unit without the
aid of a cradle, a valuable feature missing from most other portables.
Batteries are fast-charged during operation and can be hotswapped without
exiting the current application. All HandBook models include two
batteries, so the user can charge one while using the other.

Software and Support

The HandBook DX2-40 and SX-25 come with MS-DOS 6.22, Windows for Workgroups
3.11 and Microsoft Works for Windows 3.0 preloaded on the hard drive.
Complete documentation and diskettes are also included.
