Gateway 2000 wins major service and product awards

Customers say "best in service," "most likely to buy again"

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., June 28, 1994 - Gateway 2000 garnered several top
slots in BYTE magazine's 1994 Readers' Choice Awards, including Best
Service, announced in the June issue. The company also received accolades
from readers in PC Magazine' s July Service and Reliability survey, far
outpacing every other vendor when readers were asked whether or not they
would buy from the company again.

Gateway systems also copped awards in PC World's June "Top 20" selections,
PC' Computing magazine's June "Best 200" products for 1994 and BYTE's
April Lab Report.

BYTE Readers' Choice awards

BYTE readers selected Gateway 2000 for the coveted "Best Service -
Hardware" award for the company's excellent technical support and hardware
service.

In the "Desktop Computer - PC" category, Gateway swept the top three
awards. Gateway's VESA-based 4DX2-66V system finished first, followed by
the Pentium-based P5-60 and the 486-based 4DX2-66 sharing runner-up
honors. The Gateway HandBook 486 was also chosen as runner-up in the
"Hand-Held Computer" category.
The BYTE award winners were selected from a random sampling of subscribers
conducted in conjunction with the February 1994 issue.

"These awards represent system performance, value and, ultimately, our
strong customer satisfaction and loyalty," said Gateway 2000 chairman and
CEO Ted Waitt. "We're pleased to know that so many BYTE readers - our
customers - are very happy with Gateway products and with our service and
support."

PC Magazine Service & Reliability

PC Magazine readers gave Gateway an overall "A" for service and reliability
in the survey published in the July issue, marking the fourth consecutive
time Gateway has received the top grade.

In the twice-yearly survey, readers ranked Gateway # 1, well ahead of any
other vendor, when asked if they are likely to buy from the company again.
Gateway ranked in the top three for desktop reliability and for readers'
satisfaction with their repair experience.

"The key for Gateway is overall customer satisfaction," said Waitt. "Our
customers will buy from us again and recommend us to their friends because
we take care of them. It's that simple."

PC World Top 20, Best Buy awards

PC World 's monthly Top 20 list in the June issue ranked the Gateway P5-66
Pentium system as a standout in the Power Desktop category. The $3,995
system, introduced earlier this year, was lauded for its excellent
performance, great price, large monitor and hard drive, and its
added-value multimedia components.

The P4D-66 Best Buy system won awards in both the Budget and Power Desktop
categories. PC World's reviewers said, "This PC [the P4D-66 Best Buy] hits
the sweet spot of our budget category."

PC Computing Best 200

The Gateway ColorBook and HandBook 486 portables received recognition in PC
Computing's annual "Best 200" awards in the June issue.

The ColorBook notebook PC received an overall rating of 88.9, a mere
one-tenth point behind the top-rated IBM ThinkPad 750C. The ColorBook was
the lightest notebook in its class, scoring # 1 in portability.

Gateway's subnotebook, the 2.9-pound HandBook 486 placed second in both
price and portability.

BYTE's Best Low Cost Pentium for UNIX

BYTE editors selected the Gateway P5-60 Pentium system as the "Best Low
Cost Pentium for UNIX' in the magazine's April review titled "Lab Report:
57 PCs that Set the Pace."

BYTE tested Pentium-based PCs running SCO UNIX ODT (Open Desktop) 3.0
operating system and rated the units according to price, speed, ease of
use and features. Not only did the Gateway P5-60 rank #1, it is also
priced $600 less than the runner-up.
