GENICOM INTRODUCES WORKSTATION LASER PRINTER

April 6, 1994 -- (Chantilly, VA) -- GENICOM Corporation unveils its
host-based 9000 Series of laser printers, designed specifically for the
workstation market.

Leveraging the processing power of the workstation, the 9000 Series offers
advantages over traditional PostScript and PCL printers in terms of speed,
connectivity and cost. While detailed graphics generally slow down
PostScript and PCL printers, the 9000 Series prints at true engine-rated
speed, producing consistent, high-resolution output in a fraction of the
time, resulting in increased productivity.

GENICOM's two 9000 Series workstation printers feature a SCSI-2 interface
that provides a built-in gateway for high-speed data transfer. Ideal for
small workgroup environments, the GENICOM 9080 is an 8 ppm, 600x600 dpi
resolution printer for specialized applications requiring 11"x17" paper
size. The suggested list price for the 9080 is $4,995. The high-volume,
high-capacity, 17 ppm GENICOM 9170 features 600x600 dpi, optional
duplexing and supports letter and legal paper sizes. It lists for $4,995.
On-site maintenance programs are available for both printers direct from
GENICOM.

The 9000 Series is designed from the bottom up for maximized performance in
workstation applications. Since all processing, memory and network
connectivity functions are resident in the host workstation, the 9000
Series saves money by removing the need for printer upgrades and costly
connectivity solutions. The standard SCSI-2 interface is up to eight times
faster than normal high-speed networks, such as Ethernet, eliminating
compatibility and configuration problems and reducing costs.

The 9000 Series supports Sun Microsystems NeWSprint environments, and is
available to Sun customers and authorized VARs and distributors directly
through GENICOM.
