Great Plains Software Pledges Dynamics Support for Digital Equipment
Corp.'s Alpha AXP Technology

Dynamics C/SI To Run on Windows NT on Alpha AXP

SAN FRANCISCO, May 24, 1994 -- Great Plains Software announced today that
the newest release of its Dynamics product line, Dynamics C/S+, will
support Windows NT running on Digital Equipment Corp.'s Alpha AXP
computers. Dynamics C/S+ will support Alpha AXP systems in a client/server
implementation as the server, the client or as a dedicated process
server.

Dynamics C/S+ is scalable graphical client/server financial applications
and tools that offers customers server independence, client independence,
and powerful distributed processing capabilities. It is designed for
companies downsizing their mission-critical accounting applications from
mainframes and minicomputers to client/server configurations, or expanding
their existing PC-based networks to a client/server environment.

The initial release of the product includes eight financial applications --
Report and System Manager, General Ledger with Advanced Financial
Analysis, Receivables Management, Payables Management, Inventory, U.S.
Payroll, Invoicing and Magnetic Media -- and five flexibility tools --
Dynamics Modifier, Dynamics Import, Dynamics Software Development Kit,
Dexterity Development System, and ODBC Drivers.

"One of our primary goals for the Dynamics C/S+ product line is to provide
solutions that will enable our customers to take advantage of the latest
technologies to support their increasingly complex and sophisticated
needs," said Doug Burgum, president and CEO. "Digital's Alpha AXP
technology is chief among them."

Client/Server Configuration

In addition to Windows NT, Dynamics C/S+ runs on Windows, Windows for
Workgroups, Macintosh and, in the summer, Power Macintosh. Great Plains
delivers a powerful component of client/server architecture, distributed
processing, through the Dynamics Process Server (DPS). The Dynamics
Process Server allows users to distribute the most process-intensive
tasks, such as reporting and posting, to any Alpha AXP server running
Windows on the network. This maximizes use of computing power on the
network and increases individuals' productivity by freeing their desktop
machines to perform other tasks.

Open Architecture/Flexibility

Great Plains' goal is to provide an open, flexible financial management
system and the tools to enable its partners and customers to customize the
system to best suit their individual business needs. Dynamics C/S+ is
shipping with a comprehensive suite of flexibility and open access tools.
These tools provide for tight integration between Dynamics C/S+ and other
mission-critical applications and productivity tools, allowing customers
to use a variety of hardware, operating systems, development tools and
office productivity applications.

Inter-Application Communication (IAC) built into the Dynamics C/S+ Report
and System Manager provides a standard communication method -- Dynamic
Data Exchange (DDE) on Windows and Apple Events on the Macintosh -- for
sharing information with other IAC-compliant applications.

The Dynamics C/S+ Software Development Kit (SDK) provides the open access
tools and information necessary to create an integration, or "link,"
between Dynamics C/S+ and other applications. The SDK also includes the
ODBC drivers, which allow applications to retrieve underlying Dynamics
C/S+ data using SQL as a standard for accessing the data.

Flexibility tools available for Dynamics C/S+ include: System Manager,
which allows users to set up security access and organize accounting tasks
by user; the Dynamics Report Writer, which allows users to create new
custom reports and modify existing reports to fit their business needs;
the Dynamics Modifier, which allows users to customize the Dynamics C/S+
interface; and Dexterity, the 4GL cross-platform, graphical development
tool designed for high volume, transaction-based applications. Dexterity
can be used to create mission-critical applications with data integration
and the same user interface as the customer's Dynamics C/S+ applications.

Availability

Dynamics C/S+ for Alpha AXP will be available in the summer. It will be on
display in Great Plains Software's booth at DB Expo (Booth #717), from May
24 - 26 in San Francisco.
