Great Plains Software Introduces Dynamics C/S+

Client/Server financial applications offer RISC and Intel server
independence, client independence, and powerful distributed processing

Fargo, ND, May 2, 1994--Great Plains Software announced today that Dynamics
C/S+, its fully scalable client/server financial applications software,
will begin shipping in May. Built on the foundation of Great Plains
Dynamics, Dynamics C/S+ is intended for companies migrating their
mission-critical accounting applications to client/server configurations
either from mainframes and minicomputers or as an expansion to existing
PC-based networks. Initially, Dynamics C/S+ will ship with a total of 13
applications -- seven financial applications and six flexibility tools.

Dynamics C/S+ offers scalability beyond PCs to RISC-based UNIX servers. In
addition, it provides SQL connectivity and open access to data through the
implementation of Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers.

"Advances in technology, rapid market acceptance of key technologies, and
the continued dramatic drop in hardware prices have made it easier and
more imperative--for increasing numbers of businesses to adopt
client/server computing configurations," said Doug Burgum, president and
CEO. "With Dynamics C/S+, customers can achieve the strategic competitive
advantage obtained through implementation of advanced client/server
financial applications."

Client/Server Configuration

Dynamics C/S+ will nun on AIX for IBM RS/6000 servers, HP/UX on the HP
9000, Windows NT for Intel servers, Windows NT on Digital Equipment
Corporation's Alpha machines, Solaris on Sun SPARCstations and the Power
Macintosh operating system. Support for these platforms will be released
throughout the second and third quarter.

In addition, Dynamics C/S+ runs on Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
NT, Macintosh and, in the summer, Power Macintosh.

Great Plains delivers a powerful component of client/server architecture,
distributed processing, through the Dynamics Process Server (DPS). The
Dynamics Process Server allows users to distribute the most
process-intensive tasks, such as reporting and posting, to any Windows NT
or Macintosh System 7 computer on the network. This maximizes use of
computing power on the network and increases individuals' productivity by
freeing their desktop machines to perform other tasks.

Open Architecture/Flexibility

Great Plains goal is to provide an open, flexible financial management
system and the tools to enable its partners and customers to customize the
system to best suit their individual business needs. Dynamics C/S+ is
shipping with a comprehensive suite of flexibility and open access tools.
These tools provide for tight integration between Dynamics C/S+ and other
mission-critical applications and productivity tools, allowing customers
to use a variety of hardware, operating systems, development tools and
office productivity applications.

Inter-application Communication (IAC) technology built into the Dynamics
C/S+ Report and System Manager provides a standard communication method --
Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) on Windows and Apple Events on the Macintosh
-- for sharing information with other IAC-compliant applications.

The Dynamics C/S+ Software Development Kit (SDK) provides the open access
tools and information necessary to create an integration, or "link,"
between Dynamics C/S+ and other applications. The SDK also includes the
ODBC drivers which allow applications to access underlying Dynamics C/S+
data using SQL as a standard for accessing the data.

The Dynamics Import Utility provides an easy means of transferring data
from existing applications by allowing information stored in an ASCII tab
or comma format to be imported into Dynamics C/S+ data files.

Flexibility tools available for Dynamics C/S+ include: System Manager,
which allows users to set up security access and organize accounting tasks
by user; the Dynamics Report Writer, which allows users to create new
custom reports and modify existing reports to fit their business needs;
the Dynamics Modifier, which allows users to customize the Dynamics C/S+
user interface; and Dexterity, the 4GL cross-platform, graphical
development tool designed for high volume, transaction-based applications.
Dexterity can be used to create mission-critical applications with data
integration and the same user interface as the customer's Dynamics C/S+
modules.

Functionality

Dynamics C/S+ incorporates highly advanced functionality, to address the
needs of businesses with complex financial requirements. Highlights
include:

* Account numbers with up to 66 alphanumeric characters and up
  to 41 segments, increased flexibility in financial reporting;
* 367 accounting periods per fiscal year, with an unlimited
  number of years at one time;
* Support for statistical account transactions in General Ledger,
  Receivables and Payables Management, allowing tracking and
  reporting of non-financial data such as employee headcount or
  square footage by department;
* Enhanced posting process controls such as batch control totals
  and batch authorization transaction origin;
* Variable or fixed allocations, so amounts can be distributed to
  different accounts based on user-defined variables;
* Activity tracking by individual users on a system;
* Sophisticated reporting, including extremely versatile
  financial statement preparation and powerful cross-application
  report grouping; and
* Powerful cross-zoom capabilities, which provide real-time
  access to transaction-level information.

Pricing and Availability

Dynamics C/S+ will be available in May exclusively through Value-Added
Resellers who are specially trained and certified by Great Plains.
Individual application prices range from $5,000 to $40,000 and are based
on the number of concurrent users.
