IBM DELIVERS CORNERSTONE OF ITS WORKGROUP STRATEGY

SOMERS, N.Y., May 16, 1994...Delivering on its commitment to use workflow
and object technology as a cornerstone in its client/server workgroup
strategy, IBM today announced the general availability of and significant
enhancements to FlowMark, its premier client/server workflow management
product.

Flowmark, which allows customers to improve their business processes by
providing the capabilities to model, document, test and manage the
execution of processes, now offers integration code with popular workgroup
and corporate applications. This code enables users to integrate
applications within their FlowMark processes such as IBM's VisualInfo
image and document manager, IBM's Time and Place/2 group scheduler, Lotus
Notes or cc:Mail.

"Overall, the rich technology and robust nature of FlowMark position it as
a strong client/server platform for business process automation and
information systems integration," said Ronnie T. Marshak, Editor-in-Chief
of the Workgroup Computing Report by the Patricia Seybold Group, as quoted
in her recent report "IBM's FlowMark: Object-Oriented Workflow for Mission
Critical Applications."

Advanced Object Technology

FlowMark is built on advanced object technology, an approach which allows
business process rules to be separated from the application programs
involved. This separation provides for faster application development,
re-use of application programs and increased flexibility to modify
business processes. Process models are stored in ObjectStore, an
object-oriented database from Object Design, Inc.

"We intend to use FlowMark to respond more quickly to our business needs by
separating the workflow logic from the application logic in our loan
approval processes," said Martin Waber of Credit Suisse, the second
largest bank in Switzerland.

"IBM recognizes the importance of integration and an open environment to
enable business process re-engineering. We are committed to provide a
workflow solution that runs on multiple IBM and non-IBM platforms and
interoperates with other vendors' products," said Richard Sullivan, IBM's
director of Workgroup Solutions Marketing. "We feel that FlowMark,
combined with our consulting expertise, can help customers rapidly and
effectively respond to market demands and opportunities by providing the
ability to easily change business processes as the need arises."

Integration With Business Applications

To ensure FlowMark can be used as a critical component of an organization's
enterprise-wide information system, FlowMark provides integration with
customers' business applications. For example, from a FlowMark process,
customers can use IBM's Application Support Facility (ASF), CICS OS/2, or
Message Queuing Interface (MQI) as well as Easel, a client/server
application development tool by Easel Corp., to access information
residing in existing host (CICS, IMS, TSO) or other application
platforms.

To implement FlowMark in a distributed computing environment, FlowMark
supports multiple LAN servers across the enterprise. FlowMark also has
been identified as the workflow resource manager of the Open BluePrint
Model, IBM's roadmap for open distributed client/server computing.

To assist customers in using FlowMark to improve their business processes,
IBM's consulting and services organizations have extensive offerings
available which can be customized to industry specific requirements.

Expediting the Flow of Forms Throughout the Enterprise

IBM also announced the general availability of FormTalk, its forms routing,
tracking and approval software which improves the efficiency of
forms-based business processes. FormTalk, a PC-based forms tool, brings
simplified workflow capability to business professionals and workgroups.
FormTalk enhances the flow of forms and approvals through an organization
by including forms design, fill and routing capabilities. Through its
Vendor Independent Messaging (VIM) interface, FormTalk makes use of any
VIM-enabled mail system, eliminating the need for a separate forms routing
capability.

FlowMark is now available on OS/2 2.1 at $12,000 per server, $800 for a
buildtime client and $200 for a runtime client. Future releases of
FlowMark will support both Microsoft Windows clients and AIX clients and
servers.

FormTalk is now available on OS/2 2.1 for $139 per copy. IBM also plans to
offer a Windows version of FormTalk in 1994.
IBM provides client/server workgroup products for enterprise
communications, workflow, document management and decision support
applications in a cross-platform and multi-vendor environment.
