KODAK UNVEILS ITS LATEST MEGAPIXEL DIGITAL CAMERA, THE DCS 420

Device features 36-bit color, removable storage and long battery life

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 15--Building on the success of its DCS 200 digital
camera, Eastman Kodak Company today introduced a megapixel device with an
unmatched combination of image quality, ease of use and portability.

The new Kodak Professional DCS 420 Digital Camera continues the legacy of
the popular DCS 200, which set an industry standard for simple,
high-resolution digital capture. The new camera features:

* An advanced, full-frame CCD imager that delivers total
  resolution of 1.5 million pixels
* 36-bit color (12 bits per RGB color)
* The ability to store images on removable PCMCIA cards
(both hard disk and memory cards)
* A high-power battery pack good for at least 1000 images
per charge, with a recharge time of approximately one hour
* A built-in microphone for image annotation, allowing the user
to record sound clips before or after exposing an image
* A burst rate of 5 images in 2.25 seconds

Kodak designed the DCS 420 for users who require a combination of rapid
turnaround and high-quality images. Target applications include desktop
publishing, presentation development, catalog publishing, scientific
research and a variety of "on-location" imaging needs. The camera also is
well-suited for a range of military, law enforcement and government
applications.

The DCS 420 complements the recently released Associated Press NC 2000
digital camera, which Kodak developed exclusively for the news service.
(The NC 2000 features a larger sensor and greater ISO range for the
demanding needs of photojournalists.)

About the Camera

The DCS 420 consists of a special electronic back fixed to the body of a
Nikon N90 camera, described by Nikon as "a high-performance camera that
offers today's newest and most advanced capabilities." The DCS 420 will
accept all F-mount lenses offered for the Nikon camera.

To capture images, users simply compose, focus and shoot. With 36-bit
color, the camera offers an improved color depth over its predecessor,
allowing the capture of greater highlight and shadow detail.

Users can choose among exposure equivalent ISOs from 50 to 400 in color and
from 100 to 800 in black & white.

Once the camera is powered up, the time to the first shot is only 0.25
second. By holding down the shutter button, a user can fire off a
five-image burst in just 2.25 seconds.

The camera stores images on removable media compatible with its PCMCIA-ATA
slot. This feature allows users to carry along as much storage as they
need.

The camera serves as a card reader once users are ready to retrieve their
images. A standard SCSI cable connects the camera directly to a Macintosh
computer or (using a host adapter) to an IBM PC or compatible.

Kodak software shipped with the camera enables Macintosh users to acquire
image information from the camera's card reader directly to Adobe
Photoshop software. Separate Kodak software allows PC users to move image
information into Aldus PhotoStyler software or any other compatible
TWAIN-compliant application. Because the camera captures images digitally,
no frame grabbers or other special equipment are needed.

Availability

The DCS 420 line includes three models: DCS 420c (color), DCS 420m (black &
white) and DCS 420IR (infrared). All three DCS 420 models ship with the
camera itself, an AC adapter/charger, Mac and PC cables and driver
software and manuals.

Lenses and removable storage media are available separately.
The camera is available today at a suggested list price of $10,995 in the
United States. For more information, customers may call 1-800-242-2424.
