LOTUS DEVELOPMENT CORP. ANNOUNCES APPROACH RELEASE 3.0 FOR
WINDOWS

Aggressive Introductory Pricing Set At $129; First Product to Ship in Seven
Languages Simultaneously

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 13, 1994 -- Lotus Development Corp. today
announced Lotus Approach Release 3.0, a new version of its award winning
end-user relational database for the Windows operating system. Lotus
Approach 3.0 will ship within 45 days at an introductory price of $ 129.
In addition, the product will be the first to ship under Lotus' product
globalization program whereby the company will simultaneously ship new
versions of many of its products in seven languages, including English,
Japanese, Traditional Chinese, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.

Lotus Approach 3.0 offers more than 200 new features including innovative
new strides in database usability. The product incorporates major
enhancements in four areas: usability, integration with Lotus SmartSuite
and Lotus Notes, analysis and horsepower.

"Approach 3.0 has combined unprecedented ease of use with an incredibly
robust feature set, which creates an excellent environment for both end
users and power users," said Michael Hudlow, an MIS supervisor for Coopers
& Lybrand. "We have been evaluating the beta of Approach 3.0 and are
pleased with Lotus' exceptional effort to create a powerful database tool
that maintains its end user computing focus."

Delivers Unprecedented Usability

Lotus Approach 3.0 introduces a series of new usability capabilities
designed to enhance the productivity of business professionals. These
include PowerClick reporting, a new technology for producing sophisticated
reports without using a standard banded report writer. Unlike other
databases for the Windows environment, Lotus Approach 3.0 provides WYSIWYG
report design that lets users view exactly how their report will look and
print, while they are constructing it. Other innovations include Lotus
InfoBox design technology, which allows users to modify any object by
using a notetab screen device. In addition Lotus Assistants guide users
through creating custom reports, forms, mailing labels, worksheets,
crosstabs and charts.

Provides Groundbreaking Integration with Other Lotus Products

Lotus Approach provides tight integration and shares a common look and feel
with Lotus' other Windows products. Users of Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows
(Release 4.01) can obtain instant access to Lotus Approach capabilities
from within a 1-2-3 spreadsheet. Installation of Lotus Approach 3.0
enables 1-2-3 to display additional menu items, which allow users to
create forms, reports, mailing labels and dynamic crosstabs with live
1-2-3 data.

In addition, Approach 3.0 features tight integration with Lotus Notes
groupware, allowing customers to extend Notes applications with reporting,
analysis and advanced forms capabilities. Lotus Approach also supports
Notes/FX, allowing users to easily integrate Approach into their Notes
applications.

Furnishes powerful tools for data analysis

Users can perform sophisticated data analysis with Approach 3.0's new
worksheet view, complete with powerful crosstab and charting capabilities.
The product's worksheet view functions like a spreadsheet and can be
transformed into a dynamic crosstab by simply dragging and dropping
fields. Approach 3.0 will also feature the Lotus common chart engine for
easy creation of graphical representations of data analysis

Features dramatically enhanced horsepower and speed

Lotus Approach 3.0 features new X10 speed architecture. Internal benchmarks
show Lotus Approach to be more than 10 times faster than Microsoft Access
2.0 and other leading database products. The new architecture also
facilitates dramatic performance improvements to SQL databases.

In addition, macro capabilities have been rearchitected while maintaining
backward compatibility. Lotus Approach 3.0 offers powerful application
development enhancements with more than 40 new macro commands that enable
users to run subroutines and trigger macros under a variety of prescribed
conditions.

"This product release represents the culmination of an intense engineering
effort. Lotus Approach is emerging as the definition of usability in the
end-user database market because of its breakthrough ease of use, enhanced
integration, power and analysis capabilities," said Kevin Harvey, general
manager of the Approach Database Division. "In corporate environments,
market analysts are witnessing a transition in the database market from an
applications development focus to an end user focus and we are leading the
pack with cutting edge technology."

Pricing and System Requirements

Lotus Approach Release 3.0 will be available in the U.S. at an introductory
price of $129 until December 31, 1994. The regular suggested retail price
is $495. Approach 2.x and SmartSuite 2.1 users can upgrade to Lotus
Approach 3.0 for $79. Fully translated Japanese, Traditional Chinese,
French, Italian, German and Spanish versions will ship simultaneously with
the U.S. version. Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Hungarian, Korean,
Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Swedish version will ship
within 90 days of the U.S. version.

System requirements for Lotus Approach Release 3.0 include a 386 or higher
IBM compatible, 4 MB of memory (6MB of memory recommended), Microsoft
Windows 3.1x, a VGA monitor and a mouse or other pointing device.

Approach has earned more than 30 awards and accolades from a variety of
U.S. industry trade publications, including 1993's top end-user database
rating by National Software Testing Labs. The product is noted for its
ease of use, relational power and compatibility with popular database
formats.

Approach is a key element in SmartSuite which features the leading
applications in desktop product categories: 1-2-3 Release 4.01 for
Windows, Ami Pro Release 3.01, Freelance Graphics for Windows Release 2.01
and Lotus Organizer 1.1.

In addition to integration across the individual applications, SmartSuite
is the first workgroup enabled suite of Windows applications. Users can
share information and collaborate on projects via electronic mail and
distributed document management systems such as Lotus Notes. Through
Notes/FX capabilities, SmartSuite products are integrated with Lotus
Notes, and information about documents, presentations, or worksheets can
be automatically organized, distributed, and shared via the Notes
network.
