MapInfo Corporation Joins Microsoft Office Compatible Program

TROY, N.Y., April 26, 1994 -- MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ: MAPS), the
leader in desktop mapping software for data visualization and analysis,
announced that its latest release, MapInfo Version 3.0 for Windows will
join the Microsoft Office Compatible program. This program enables
independent software vendors to have a consistent look with Microsoft
Office for Windows, the world's best selling office suite. With MapInfo,
users can combine corporate databases and maps on ordinary desktop systems
to see emerging patterns, relationships and trends geographically.

Products with the Microsoft Office Compatible symbol offer a distinct
advantage -they share the Microsoft Office family's familiar and
consistent way of doing things. The similarities include commands, menus,
toolbars and more -- such as the same way of sharing text, numbers, and
graphics between programs. Users of Microsoft Office Standard or
Professional will find it easier to learn and use Microsoft Office
Compatible products.

"What matters most to software users is getting up and running and solving
business problems," said Dwight Cheu, director of product marketing,
MapInfo Corp. "MapInfo recognized this from the outset, and delivered the
first Windows-based desktop mapping package in 1991. Now, MapInfo 3.0
incorporates the graphics and structure of Microsoft Office familiar to
millions of users worldwide, enhancing its ease-of-use even more."

"MapInfo is a great product for users who want to further analyze
information they have created in Microsoft Office," said Chris Peters,
vice president of Microsoft's Office Business Unit. "MapInfo's support of
the familiar Microsoft Office user interface will make it easier for users
to learn and work with MapInfo and will provide new insights on the data
they rely on for making decisions."

MapInfo desktop mapping software runs on multiple platforms and can be
customized with the MapBasic programming language for enterprise-wide
applications. Corporate databases can be accessed with MapInfo's SQL
DataLink module. Today, applications are found enterprise-wide in banks,
insurance companies, consumer products companies, transportation
conglomerates, real estate firms, environmental firms, government
agencies, manufacturers, retailers, franchisers and other industries.

MapInfo Corporation, Troy, N.Y., was founded in 1986 and is the worldwide
leader in desktop mapping software. The publicly held company is traded on
NASDAQ under the symbol MAPS. MapInfo software has been recognized for
excellence by PC Magazine, Windows Magazine and MacUser Magazine. The
software runs on Windows, Macintosh, Sun, HP and DOS computers and is sold
worldwide through direct sales, resellers and distributors.
