Project Gateway introduced at PC Expo
Integrates project management applications with Lotus Notes

New York City, June 28, 1994: Marin Research has introduced Project
Gateway, a Windows' based product which integrates Microsoft Project and
Symantec Time Line project management software with Lotus Notes. The $895
starter kit includes software for three workstations. This enabling
technology creates an enterprise project information repository where
up-to-date schedule data is joined with specifications, customer
correspondence, drawings and ongoing work discussions.

Project Gateway adds functions to Lotus Notes that import, export and
synchronize project management application data with a Notes Database,
allowing both the project manager and the project participants to work
jointly to achieve the project goals.

Total Project Information. All the time. Everywhere.

"Lotus Notes is an ideal tool for project management because it can make
all kinds of project information widely accessible," according to Marin
Research President Gary M. Cole. "Project Gateway gives you the ability to
use Notes and fully utilize the planning and resource optimization
techniques of dedicated project management applications."

"Project Gateway translates project plans into Notes databases of easily
understood to-do lists where project participants can update the status of
their work. It gathers up-to-date actuals from Notes and updates the
project manager's model to allow analysis and reevaluation as the work
progresses."

Supports Period Based Progress Reporting

The Project Gateway reporting feature assists project participants in
recording the status and work effort on their assignments. It maintains
hours worked, percent complete, hours to go and other data by periods
which may be set as weeks, months, or any custom interval by the project
manager.

Manages two way project synchronization

Project Gateway selectively updates a Notes Project Database when a new
revision is made to the project management plan. It selectively updates
the project management plan with up-to-date actuals so that analysis is
done with the best information. This allows the project management
application user to effortlessly maintain a current model of the project
and to post schedule revisions whenever necessary.

Push-button Data visualization

Project Gateway incorporates a special edition of Charts Now!, the easy to
use schedule diagramming utility from Foundation Microsystems. A single
command enables any project participant to get a presentation-style Gantt
chart of their assignments, or the whole project, without needing a
project management system. The Charts Now! tool can also be used to create
new projects simply by drawing desired schedule tasks on the screen and
using the Project Gateway create command.

Extensible architecture supports multivendor operation

Project Gateway maintains a vendor-independent metaproject within the Notes
database. This allows users to extract updated schedules into any of the
supported project management applications. Project Gateway's open
architecture enables the future integration with other project and time
management applications. Several forms of data exchange are supported
including SQL access of a Time Line 6 database. The project
databases created by Project Gateway are ready to use, but can be
extensively customized by the project manager or value added resellers
using the tools built into Lotus Notes.

System Requirements

Project Gateway requires Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Notes 3.8MB RAM and 5MB
disk are recommended. Project Gateway interchanges project schedules with
Microsoft Project for Windows versions 3 and 4, Symantec Time Line version
1 and 6 for Windows and version 5 for DOS. Project Gateway installs into
the Notes Windows Client software.
