LOW-COST INTERNAL MODEM ANNOUNCED AT PCEXPO

MOUNDS VIEW, MN (June 28, 1994)--Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading modem
manufacturer, announces a new low-cost internal modem. The MT1932ZPX is a
data/fax modem supporting data speeds to 19.2K bps (V.32terbo) and
14.4K/9600/4800 bps V.17/Group 3 fax communications. The modem is designed
for 8- or 16-bit ISA bus computers and comes bundled with MultiExpress
data and MultiExpressFax Windows-based communications software. The
MT1932ZPX is now shipping at a price of $269.00 U.S.

"Our new internal modem brings high-level performance and versatility to
low-cost internal modems," states Raghu Sharma, President of Multi-Tech
Systems, Inc. "The MT1932ZPX provides 16550 emulation technology with
19.2K bps V.32terbo speeds for data communications and 14.4K/9600 bps
V.17/Group 3 fax, and all the Windows software you need bundled in the
same package. Advanced performance features include callback security,
remote configuration, and Multi-Tech's patented UNIX UUCP spoofing for
enhanced file transfers. In addition, the modem supports more IRQs and
COMM port addresses than typical low-priced internal modems. Now, users
who have IRQ and COMM port conflicts can find an acceptable combination
quickly and easily. With this versatility, this modem can be used in
multiple modem applications without conflicts. One example might be
creating a low-cost remote node gateway for NetWare using Multi-Tech's
MultiComRNGateway software. RNGCOM will let you run four of these new
modems as serial port devices in a standard PC. with each modem having its
own non-conflicting IRQ and COMM port address. Such a configuration would
cost under $1900, including the modems, gateway software and our Ethernet
Network Interface Card with the user supplying the PC."

The MT1932ZPX data rates of 19.2K/16.8K/14.4K/12.2K/9600/4800/2400/1200/300
bps modem for 8- or 16-bit ISA bus slots (e.g. IBM PC, AT, XT or
compatible). The MT1932ZPX extended addressing feature expands the
standard IRQs (i.e. 2, 3, 4. 5, 7) to include 10 through 15, and COMM port
addresses can be set from 10() hex to 3F8 hex, rather than the COMM 1, 2,
3. and 4 commonly available in other modems. The 16550 emulation
technology used in the ZPX is superior to 16550 UARTs because the
transfers are parallel to the PC and can reach speeds in excess of 200K
bps. This speed is one of the inherent benefits of our internal modems
using 16550 emulation technology; the ZPX does not have to communicate
through a serial port. The MT1932ZPX supports AT&T's 19.2K/16.8K bps
V.32terbo open standard. The V.32terbo standard provides the higher data
rates while maintaining compatibility with lower-speed modems based on
V.32bis, V.32, V.22bis and other common modulation standards.

The MT1932ZPX provides V.42 error correction for 100% error-free
transmissions and V.42bis data compression yielding asynchronous
throughputs up to 76.8K bps, which are four times faster than 19.2K bps
V.32terbo alone (depending on file content). Fax transmissions at
14.4K/9600/4800 bps allow the MT1932ZPX to send or receive faxes with any
V.17, Group 3, or Group 2 fax machine, fax card or fax/modem in the world.
The ZPX uses industry standard "AT" commands for modem configuration and
dialing. The ZPX comes bundled with MultiExpress data Windows
communications and MultiExpressFax for Windows software. During call
negotiation, the ZPX can automatically switch between its available
speeds. Under poor line conditions, it will fall back from the negotiated
modulation speed to 4800 bps in standard increments. As the line
conditions improve, the line speeds will step back up in the same
increments.
