MULTI-TECH ANNOUNCES V.34 RACK-MOUNT MODEM AT PC EXPO

MOUNDS VIEW, MN (June 28, 1994)--Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading modem
manufacturer, announces a 28.8K bps V.34 modem for its CC-Series rack
mount system. The MT2834BR is compliant with the recently approved draft
recommendation. for 28.8K bps V.34 modems and includes FlashROM technology
for easy firmware upgrades via dialing into the Multi-Tech BBS and
downloading new code. The modem is designed for Multi-Tech's CC-Series
19-inch rack modem systems. The MT2834BR will be shipping next month and
is priced at $740 U.S.

"When it comes to rack-mount modems, the importance of communications
standards cannot be overstated," emphasizes Raghu Sharma, President of
Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "With over 15 years of installations, and one of
the largest installed bases of industrial rack modem systems in the
industry, our CC-Series rack systems have gained acceptance in
applications such as realty boards, credit bureaus and government
installations. And, since incoming calls can come from a wide variety of
modems, we needed to make sure our 28.8K bps modems were real V.34
standard with international acceptance and not some proprietary
technology. With the ITU-T Study Group 14 approval of the draft
recommendations for V.34, the way was clear to produce 28.8K bps modems
that will meet worldwide standard performance. We appreciate our users'
patience in this matter. With the release of the MT2834BR, that patience
is paying off with one of the industry-s best performing modems, and its
FlashROM capability will continue to guarantee top performance with easy
firmware upgrades in the future."

The MT2834BR modem operates at ITU-T V.34 28.8K bps. AT&T V.32terbo 19.2K
bps. and all lower speed standards. The modem hardware provides V.42 error
correction for 100% error-free transmissions and V.42bis data compression
yielding asynchronous throughputs up to 115K bps, which are four times
faster than 28.8K bps V.34 alone (depending on file content). Fax
transmissions at 14.4K/9600/4800 bps allow the MT2834BR to send or receive
faxes with any V.17, Group 3, or Group 2 fax machine, fax card or
fax/modem in the world. The Multi-Tech patented UNIX UUCP protocol
enhancing feature is included. The MT2834BR uses industry standard "AT"
commands for modem configuration and dialing, and includes a remote
configuration feature which allows a user to remotely change parameters
and run diagnostics for troubleshooting, technical support and system
administration purposes.

The CC-Series rack modem system provides basic 19-inch modem cage
capability for up to 16 modems or DSUs, all powered by a single power
supply. Modems are connected to phone lines with individual RJ11C or S
cables, or via a standard RJ21X 50-pin connector for dial-up, dial-backup
and leased lines. The CC-Series racks come with power supplies which
convert 115VAC, 230VAC or 48VDC (for Telco installations) to appropriate
DC voltages for 16 modems.

Multi-Tech Systems is well known for its MultiModem line of dial-up
communications products. Multi-Tech's family of products includes a
complete line of data/fax modems. MultiMux voice/data/fax statistical
multiplexers, DSUs, 3270/3780/5250 emulation systems, X.24 PADs, UNIX
serial interfaces, communications software, LAN/WAN connectivity products,
and most recently, the MultiModemPCS, a voice/data/fax personal
communication system. These products are sold in over 70 countries through
a worldwide network of distributors, manufacturer's reps, system
integrators, value-added resellers (VARs) and retailers.
