NANAO Introduces Advanced 17-inch Trinitron

FlexScan T2-17 Boasts New Set Of Features, Including On-Screen Controls

June 28, 1994 -- TORRANCE, CA -- NANAO USA CORPORATION LAUNCHES A NEW
GENERATION OF TRINITRON DISPLAYS with the introduction of the FlexScan
T2-17 17-inch monitor. This new generation builds on the power of the T
Series with advances in performance, usability and safety. The 17-inch
display offers new features such as wider scanning frequencies, on-screen
controls, TCO-compliant anti-reflection coating, and full DPMS-compliant
power management. The T2-17 is an ideal high-end display for
discriminating users in the Graphic Design, Multimedia and CAD/CAM fields.
Its 20-inch counterpart, the T2-20, will also be available in late
August.

ScreenManager - A New Dynamic Of Usability

Nanao adds a new dynamic to their already popular control panel by placing
it on the screen itself, via the powerful new utility, ScreenManager.
ScreenManager is built into the microprocessor to display all vital image
controls on screen, providing easy access and comprehension for all users.
ScreenManager takes full advantage of Nanao's popular thumbwheel, lending
an analog feel to digital controls. With a single oversized button
positioned just below the thumbwheel, users can scroll through the
on-screen menus, make adjustments, and save them to memory with just one
finger. Once the user is finished making the proper adjustments, a single
touch of the button removes the panel and leaves the screen clear for
regular software applications.

With the introduction of ScreenManager, Nanao has added many new and useful
features. Moire reduction is used to reduce video moire, a visual pattern
commonly found in higher-quality displays. Tilt adjustment rotates the
picture to compensate the effect of strong magnetism field intensity and
renders a level picture.

Of course, ScreenManager provides all the advanced controls Nanao users are
familiar with, such as sizing, positioning, distortion, and color
controls. Users have even more control over PowerManager and Auto Power
ON/OFF, Nanao's Energy Star-compliant systems, with the onscreen display.
Power down timing can now be controlled easily through the new panel.

Many people find the familiar "beep" generated by the control panel a
useful notation in determining the degree of their settings. Others may
find it distracting; ScreenManager now offers the option of turning it on
or off. Another custom feature that makes ScreenManager more enjoyable to
use is Menu See, an option of changing the size and position of the
ScreenManager itself. This allows the user to have the menu at the ready,
but not have it in the way. ScreenManager also offers the option of
displaying the control panel in five different languages - English,
German, French, Spanish, and Italian.

Features - The Next Generation Of The T Series

Nanao builds on its famous T Series quality by adding new features that
improve display performance and user safety. In order to generate a more
stable image, the T2-17 now boasts a wider horizontal and vertical
scanning frequency. The horizontal scanning frequency has now been
extended to 30-85kHz, and the vertical scanning frequency to 55-160Hz.
This renders a top resolution of 1600 x 1200 at 66Hz, and a recommended
resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 80Hz.

When it comes to safety, Nanao has always been in the forefront. The T2-17
forges ahead in this tradition by integrating a new type of coating called
SuperErgoCoat. SuperErgoCoat not only cuts down on glare and reflection to
generate a crystal clear image, but also lowers radiation emissions to be
in compliance with the TCO standard. So now the T2-17 adheres to the
strictest safety standards in the world without the weight of a heavy
panel. The new 17-inch display also complies with MPR II, as well as
ISO9241-3 for visual ergonomic requirements.

With the FlexScan T2-17, Nanao integrates many of its key features,
features that have generated a satisfied customer base and an award
winning product.

With WideView, the T2-17 can display edge-to-edge images both horizontally
and vertically. This means the monitor can provide larger images with no
unused screen area between the image and the monitor bezel. Thus, the user
enjoys a significantly larger active display area.

To correct the deflection distortion of an electron beam spot, the Dynamic
Focus and Dynamic Beam Spot Control System has been applied to the T2-17.
This system eliminates the halo around each electron beam spot, resulting
in superior spot shape and size, and marked improvements in both
resolution and convergence over the entire screen.

The T2-17 also integrates a 75 Ohm Termination Switch. This switch, on the
rear of the monitor, allows several T2-17 monitors to be interconnected
and display the same screen. This function can be used in business
presentations, schools, or exhibitions to simultaneously display the same
image to many people on multiple screens.

Other standard features include Advanced Image Control, Color Control, and
Low Radiation Emissions. The T2-17 also standardizes on power management
with the current family of Nanao power-saving monitors by implementing
Ecological Design.

Ecological Design

As the first monitor vendor to join the EPA Energy Star Program, Nanao
continues its development of monitors that not only have first-rate
displays, but also implement key ergonomic and ecological features.
Nanao's concerns are to provide a healthy working environment and to
minimize power consumption.

The T2-17 comes with two unique power saving systems: AutoPower ON/OFF and
PowerManager. The Auto-Power ON/OFF feature monitors the video signal from
the computer. The monitor's power starts automatically when the computer
is switched on. Conversely, when the computer is shut off, the monitor
automatically powers down to a stand-by mode which consumes less than 10%
of the total power of its normal operation. By sensing the lack of a
horizontal or vertical video sync. signal, this feature works with all
VESA DPMS compliant video systems.

New with the T2-17 is a full compliance with the four stages specified by
VESA: DPMS On, Stand-By, Suspend and Off. When the T2-17 receives the
Stand-By signal, it will enter PowerManager Mode 1 automatically, where it
remains for the duration of Stand-By. When the monitor receives the
Suspend signal, it enters PowerManager Mode 1 automatically. It will then
remain in Mode 1 for the period of the time setting on the monitor (0-60
minutes). After this period defined by the timer setting, the display will
enter PowerManager Mode 2.

The PowerManager feature also interacts with screen saver software. With
the Power Save button ON, PowerManager is automatically activated when the
blank screen of the screen saver appears. The power consumption during
this feature is less than 8% of the total power consumption. To make this
function easier and more fun, Nanao continues to offer a copy of Berkeley
Systems' After Dark with Ecologic free with every monitor purchase.

No other monitor company offers such universal compliance when it comes to
display power management.

Compatibility and Agency Approval

The FlexScan T2-17 is compatible with VGA, Super VGA, 8514/A, TIGA, IGA and
ultra high resolution graphics controllers for MS/PC-DOS PCs, and
MacII/MacII-compatible, Mac Quadra and Power Mac video cards.

The T2-17 is Energy Star and VESA DPMS compliant. With respect to low
radiation emissions, the T2-17 not only complies with the Swedish MPR II
guidelines, but also TCO (Swedish Confederation of Professional
Employees). This monitor also complies with ISO9241-3 for visual ergonomic
requirements.

Availability and Warranty

The FlexScan T2-17 will be available for shipment late August, 1994.
Pricing for the T2-17 is yet to be determined, but is expected to be lower
than the current 17-inch T560i, now priced at $1525 ESP(estimated sales
price). The T2-17 is covered by Nanao's three-year warranty on parts and
labor (one year CRT).

In addition to After Dark with Ecologic, T2-17 users will also receive the
new Colorific color management software, licensed from Sonnetech, Inc. of
San Francisco, CA. Colorific is available in Mac and Windows versions and
provides accurate color for desktop presentations and printing.

For Macintosh users, Nanao now offers a new version of the Universal
Macintosh adapter, fully compatible with the Apple On-The-Fly Resolution
Switching offered on all new Macs. The adapter is available for a list
price of $15.

Nanao Releases FlexScan T2-20 at PC Expo

This week, Nanao USA will also be releasing the FlexScan T2-20, the 20-inch
counterpart to the T2-17. The T2-20 integrates many of the same features,
including ScreenManager, wider scanning frequencies, and full DPMS
compliance. The T2-20 now runs 25 watts less at a maximum power
consumption rating of 145 watts. The T2-20 also meets the ISO 9241-3
standard.
