NEXGEN INTRODUCES Nx586 PROCESSOR FAMILY

MILPITAS, California, March 14, 1994 - NexGen today announced the Nx586
family of processors--the first in the industry to offer products that
provide mainstream PC users with 5th generation power, full x86 binary
software compatibility, at a significantly lower chip and system cost than
Intel's Pentium processor. The Nx586 processor is currently sampling with
production availability in the second quarter; the Nx587 floating point
coprocessor is scheduled for mid-year shipment. The Nx586 processor is
currently available in 60 and 66 MHz clock rates. The product will be
demonstrated at the CeBIT '94 show in Hannover, Germany from March
16-March 23.

"The market is hungry for high-end processing power at affordable prices,"
said Atiq Raza, President and Chief Executive Officer of NexGen. "NexGen's
Nx586 family is the only product on the market today that provides
mainstream PC users with 5th generation performance, full x86
compatibility, and affordability."

NexGen, a pioneer in microprocessor technology, currently holds many
patents for its leading-edge x86 processor technologies and has several
more in various stages of application or approval.

5th Generation Performance

NexGen developed its high performance Nx586 family from the ground up
utilizing state of the art processor technologies. This design begins with
the five key performance elements also found in Intel's Pentium:
superscalar execution, advanced on-chip level-one code and data caches,
branch prediction, 64-bit buses, and advanced floating point capabilities.
However, the NexGen design goes further by incorporating NexGen's patented
RISC86 microarchitecture and an on-chip level 2 cache controller. This
combination of advanced technologies gives the Nx586 processor its high
performance today and a clear path to much higher performance in the
future.

The Nx586 processor implements the industry standard x86 instruction set by
dynamically translating x86 instructions into RISC86 instructions. These
RISC86 instructions are specifically designed with support for the x86
instruction set while obeying RISC performance principles. They are thus
much simpler and easier to execute than complex x86 instructions. This
will allow NexGen to bring to market the highest performance x86
processors at the same time as, or ahead of Intel. In addition, NexGen is
the only x86 processor manufacturer to provide the level two cache
controller on-chip. This integration is critical to maximizing performance
and minimizing overall system cost.

Binary Compatible with the over 50,000 Off-the-Shelf x86 Software Titles

The Nx586 processor is fully x86 binary software compatible with the
industry standard x86 instruction set. The Nx586 processor is able to run
the more than 50,000 DOS, Windows, OS/2, and UNIX applications available
today. NexGen has ensured compatibility by undertaking extensive internal
compatibility testing over the past several years. In addition, XXCAL, one
of the leading independent testing laboratories, has tested the
compatibility of the Nx586 processor in a PC with an extensive collection
of the most popular software applications, and with every major PC
operating system, networking protocol, and peripheral. The Nx586 processor
has already passed XXCAL precertification compatibility testing and is now
in process to receive XXCAL's highest compatibility rating.

Lowest System Cost

The Nx586 processor is priced, in quantities of 1000, at $460 for the 60MHz
clock rate and $506 for the 66MHz clock rate. This allows PC manufacturers
to purchase 5th generation Nx586 processors for 32% less than Pentium
processors. To further reduce costs, NexGen makes the floating point
coprocessor an option as opposed to integrating it into the chip. Since
most business applications do not require floating point, users can save
money by only purchasing the Nx587 if needed. The Nx587 floating point
coprocessor is priced at $128, in quantities of 1000, for the 60 and 66
Mhz clock rates. In addition, the Nx586 processor includes the level-two
cache controller on chip, saving the cost of an external device, and
allowing use of inexpensive SRAMs in a full performance system. This will
enable mainstream PC users to purchase NxS86-based PC's where they
previously could afford only a 486-based system.

NxVL and NxPCI System Logic Chips Simultaneously Announced

In order to allow PC manufacturers to ramp up production volume rapidly,
NexGen is simultaneously announcing system logic chipsets based on the
VESA VL-Bus and the PCI local bus. The NxVL chipset, available
immediately, is priced at $86 in quantities of 1000. The NxVL chip allows
use of x86 software, VL-Bus cards and ISA cards in systems based on the
Nx586 processor/NxVL chipset combination. The NxPCI, scheduled for
availability in the second half of the year, will support x86 software and
PCI and ISA cards.
