NOMDA/LANDA honors Ray Noorda with lifetime achievement award

Kansas City, Mo. (May 11, 1994) -- In recognition of his outstanding
contributions to the network computing industry, Novell's Ray Noorda has
been chosen to be the first recipient of the NOMDA/LANDA Lifetime
Achievement Award. The award will be presented to Noorda, chairman of
Novell, Inc., during the association's Sixth Annual Manufacturer/Supplier
Awards program, July 11, 199.4, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas,

NOMDA/LANDA's Lifetime Achievement Award was created to honor those
individuals who have dedicated their careers to the growth of the network
computing industry. Noorda was selected by the association, serving over
4,000 value-added resellers, systems integrators and dealers, for his
commitment to LAN market development, technology research and helping
build the reseller channel.

"We are proud to have Mr. Noorda as our first recipient of the Lifetime
Achievement Award," said NOMDA/LANDA president Leon Carter. "He has been a
driving force behind the growing and changing information and
communications industry."
In the reseller community, Noorda has played a vital role in the evolution
of today's diverse, high-end VAR. During the 1980s, his encouragement and
support were crucial to the creation of LANDA, the Local Area Network
Dealers Association. In the spring of 1993, this organization merged with
NOMDA, the National Office Machine Dealers Association, forming today's
NOMDA/LANDA.

"Ray's dedication to the network industry is invaluable. His achievements
in the LAN business have contributed to the introduction of today's
integrated business systems and the dawning of tomorrow's information
superhighway," said Howard Lubert, NOMDA/LANDA Board of Directors member
and networking VAR.

Since joining Novell in 1983, Noorda has brought the company to its current
leadership position in the networking industry.. Under his direction, the
company has grown from revenues of $3.8 million in 1983 to $1.123 billion
for its 1993 fiscal year.
Noorda built a systems software success at Novell around his perspective
that the capabilities of computer networks would rely more on services
defined by software than physical connections between computer hardware.
He has consistently stressed responsible industry leadership, accelerating
the growth of the total network computing industry and partnering with
other vendors as a customer-driven strategy.

Before joining Novell, Noorda was chief executive officer of Boschert,
Inc.,-a manufacturer of power supply systems. Prior to Boschert, he served
as president of System Industries, Inc., and as executive vice president
and later president for General Automation, Inc.

Earning his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1949, Noorda spent the early
days of his career with General Electric, where he was primarily engaged
in process-related computer activities.

NOMDA/LANDA, evolving to the new name Business Technology Association, is
an international organization serving over 4,500 members in the office
automation and network computing industry. Its membership of dealers,
value-added resellers, systems integrators, manufacturers and distributors
provide business solutions in such products as computer systems, copiers,
document imaging, facsimile transmission, local area networks, mailing
equipment, software, systems integration and wide area networks. The
Association offers ongoing educational programs and member services and
promotes quality solutions, installation and service support to the
end-user.
