OKIDATA INTRODUCES 600 DPI-CLASS, POSTSCRIPT PAGE PRINTER FOR INDIVIDUAL
MAC AND PC USERS

-- The First Printer to Incorporate Adobe's Memory Booster Technology --

MT. LAUREL, NJ, June 28, 1994 -- Okidata today introduced the OL410e/PS, a
compact 4 pages-per-minute, LED/laser-class Adobe PostScript printer. The
new printer is designed for individual Macintosh (including Power PC) and
386/486/Pentium PC users who want 600 dpi-class print quality for their
Windows, DOS and Apple Macintosh desktop publishing, graphics, word
processing and spreadsheet output. The OL410e/PS carries a suggested
retail price of $1,249.

The OL410e/PS is the latest addition to Okidata's 4 ppm LED/laser, personal
page printer family, which includes the desktop OL400e and the 600
dpi-class OL410e. Like the OL400e and the OL410e, the OL410e/PS is
targeted for home offices, small businesses and workgroups within larger
businesses. It combines 600 dpi-class print quality with innovative
features -- such as Adobe's new Memory Booster Technology -- in a compact,
desktop unit.

"The response of the PC market to the superior 600 dpi-class output of our
OL410e was overwhelmingly positive, especially to the sharp detail it
produces when printing graphics," said Jim Butterworth, senior vice
president. business development. "Since Macintosh users tend to use more
graphics-rich applications, we wanted to offer them the same 600 dpi-class
output that's available to PC users. The OL410e/PS provides them with the
PostScript capability they need."

Those needs include desktop publishing, graphics-intensive documents, such
as newsletters, brochures and flyers, and text-oriented jobs, including
reports, memorandums and proposals.

Ideal for Apple Macintosh Users

The OL410e/PS was designed to allow users to generate high-quality 600
dpi-class output from their Macintosh systems. The printer comes equipped
with 37 built-in Adobe PostScript fonts, AppleTalk interface, printer
drivers and a RISC microprocessor for a fast 25-second time-to-first page
speed. It also offers the flexibility of true Adobe PostScript Level 2.
This most commonly used Macintosh printer language ensures complete
compatibility with Apple Macintosh software and downloadable fonts. For
multi-platform environments, the OL410e/PS also offers HP PCL5 emulation.

Adobe's Memory Booster Technology

The OL410e/PS is the first printer to incorporate Adobe's Memory Booster
Technology. This new technology "boosts" the standard 2 MBs of memory to 5
MBs of effective memory in PostScript without adding cost. The result,
more efficient and reliable printing, especially for complex,
image-intensive documents. This capability saves the cost of memory
upgrades and the frustration of half printed pages. Adding optional memory
upgrades will further enhance the printer's capabilities to print complex
documents in 600 dpi mode.

Broad Font Capability and Selection

The OL410e/PS offers full-scale font capability for maximum flexibility in
the design/creation of printed documents. It has resident Adobe PostScript
fonts which include Adobe standard 35 outline fonts plus 2 Multiple Master
outline fonts. These two Multiple Master fonts - Adobe Sans and Adobe
Serif, were specifically designed for font substitution. This means that
Adobe Acrobat or other Macintosh applications that support automatic font
substitution will retain the formatting and typographic character of the
original document, even if the host computer doesn't have the actual fonts
used to create the document. The OL410e/PS also has:

* The ability to accept True Type fonts in the
  Adobe PostScript mode.
* 12 resident PCL5 outline fonts.
* United States Postal Service (USPS) bar code fonts.

                   Key Features Summary

The OL410e/PS offers:

* Low cost of ownership at 2.4 cents per page and only
1.5 cents up to 20,000 printed pages.
* RISC microprocessor for 25 second time to first page printing.
* Microfine toner which contributes to the 600 dpi-class output
  with finer, smoother lines.
* Adobe PostScript Level 2 and PCL5. Serial, parallel and
AppleTalk interfaces for connecting a MAC and a PC or up to
two PCs and a MAC, allowing the printer to be shared among
computer users. It also provides auto-switching between
interfaces, plus auto-emulation switching in Windows between
  PCL and PostScript.
* A standard 100 sheet adjustable universal paper tray plus
expandable paper handling. It offers up to three paper sources
totalling 450 sheets with the optional 250-sheet tray/mechanism
and multi-purpose feeder that holds 100 sheets or 50 envelopes.
It also has a manual feed capability for labels, envelopes,
legal-size documents, postcards and index cards.
* Compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy
Star energy-efficiency program signifying low power usage by
computers and peripherals. The printer's Power Save Mode
automatically reduces power usage to less than 15 watts when
  the printer is inactive.
* LCD operator panel for simple access to printer controls.
* Backed by an industry-leading five-year printhead warranty.
* Compact, 1.25 square foot footprint, allowing the OL410e/PS
to fit on a desktop and in offices where space is at a premium.

Efficient Imaging System

With the printer's two-piece imaging system, the image drum and toner
cartridge are separate components. The OL410e/PS incorporates a
no-cleaning blade, electronic cleaning and recycling system to reduce
toner waste. When the user needs to replace toner, the drum doesn't have
to be replaced, as is the case with other printers offered today.
Depending on where and how the printer is used, the image drum can last up
to approximately 20,000 pages. With a 20,000 page life on the drum and a
250-sheet-per-month usage rate, cost per page can be as little as 1.5
cents.
