OLICOM ANNOUNCES FIRST EISA 155 MBPS ATM CARD
Reveals ATM Product Strategy and Roadmap

May 23, 1994, Dallas, Texas -- Olicom, a leading supplier of Token-Ring
networking products, today unveiled its ATM product strategy and announced
the first in its ATM family of products. The Olicom ATM EISA Network
Interface Card (NIC), a 155 Mbps card with standard SONET fiber
connectors, is the first of a series of products that Olicom is developing
for the ATM market. The Olicom ATM product line is designed to address
current and future needs for enterprise networking solutions and to
provide a migration path for enhanced use of ATM products and services
together with the existing Token-Ring and Ethernet technologies.

ATM PRODUCT STRATEGY

To deploy the new generation of client/server and multimedia applications
that have begun to take hold in enterprise networks, customers now require
increased speed and greater bandwidth to the desktop, at an affordable
cost. Olicom's strategy is to address these customer needs with
cost-effective, fully interoperable ATM solutions that allow migration
from existing Token-Ring and Ethernet solutions. To this end, Olicom will
initially provide customers with a complete family of ATM Network
Interface Cards, and later, with a number of key ATM backbone components
including bridging and routing products and ATM switching products, which
will be announced at a later date.

"ATM will rapidly become the technology of choice for implementing
broadband LANs and WANs," said Max Jensen, president and CEO of Olicom
USA, Inc. "We view ATM as the future of networking and, as such, have made
a strong commitment to ATM development."

OLICOM ATM NETWORK INTERFACE CARDS

Olicom's ATM product offerings will include a complete range of Network
Interface Cards to address both desktop applications that require low-cost
solutions and high-end workstation applications that require more
powerful, higher speed solutions.

To address users' needs for affordable ATM-to-desktop connectivity, Olicom
has partnered with Fujitsu Microelectronics (announced in April of this
year) to develop software driver and silicon technology for a series of 25
Mbps, IBM-compatible ATM NICs. For high-end applications such as those
deployed on multimedia workstations, Olicom will deliver a family of 51
and 155 Mbps cards. The entire family of NICs will include support for
industry-standard PC bus architectures such as ISA, EISA, PCI and PCMCIA,
and Olicom will develop the software driver technology including native
ATM interface drivers and software drivers for Novell, Microsoft and IBM
LAN products.

The Olicom ATM EISA card is the first of these new ATM solutions to be
introduced. The card is a 155 Mbps SONET multimode fiber card for EISA bus
compatible PCs and servers. The card can be used to provide direct desktop
connection for applications requiring high bandwidth such as multimedia or
imaging. It can also serve as the platform to link classic LANs with an
ATM backbone using router software. The Olicom ATM EISA card will allow
users to build ATM-connected, high-end EISA based workstations based on
standard PC architecture, a significant advantage over most other 155 Mbps
NICs now available. Most of the current 155 Mbps products are for
proprietary RISC workstations such as IBM RS/6000 and SUN Systems.

MIGRATION TO ATM

A key component of Olicom's ATM strategy is to provide migration from
existing networks. Olicom is committed to providing current Ethernet and
Token-Ring network customers with a simple migration path to ATM, as well
as full interoperability for existing Ethernet and Token-Ring products.

"Our current Token-Ring and Ethernet customers want a standardized,
cost-effective migration path from their existing networks to ATM based
networks to take advantage of the emerging business applications ATM
offers including video, imaging, voice and client/server technology,"
Jensen said. "Our ATM strategy will allow customers to continue to utilize
existing Token-Ring and Ethernet technology for normal use, and to deploy
cost-effective ATM network interface cards in their workstations where
higher real-time bandwidth is required for these new multimedia
applications. At the same time, it will allow them to migrate to ATM
gradually, by deploying it only where needed, and integrating it into
their existing networking environments."

ATM INTEROPERABILITY

A critical factor in the successful implementation of ATM networks is
interoperability between multiple vendors' ATM product offerings. To
ensure complete interoperability with other vendors' products, Olicom is
participating in industry forums and standards bodies including the ATM
Forum and the recently established IBM 25 Mbps ATM consortium. In
addition, Olicom is actively developing strong relationships with other
leading ATM vendors in order to provide users with a fully interoperable
ATM solution. To date, Olicom has established such relationships with
SynOptics Communications of Santa Clara, CA, to provide interoperability
with the LattisCell ATM switch, and Novell, Inc. of Provo, Utah, to ensure
compatibility with Novell's UNIXWare Router products.

"As a leading supplier of networking products to organizations worldwide,
we believe interoperability is a critical requirement," said Asbjorn
Sorhaug, Olicom's vice president of strategic marketing. "The combination
of SynOptics' LattisCell ATM switch and the Olicom ATM NICs will provide a
complete ATM enterprise solution to the market and offer true value to our
customers."

"We have been working with Novell for many years, but our ATM
interoperability project is definitely one of the most exciting activities
to date," Sorhaug continued. "The Olicom ATM NICs together with our
high-performance driver technology provide an ideal foundation for the
NetWare technologies Novell is using to address customers' enterprise
solution requirements."

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The Olicom ATM EISA Card will initially only be available in a beta
version. Olicom expects to bring its family of ATM NICs to the general
market in the fourth quarter of 1994 or the first quarter of 1995, after
the ATM Forum has defined LAN emulation and other standards to make
complete standardized ATM NIC products possible. Pricing and other details
will be announced at that time. Olicom will demonstrate the new ATM EISA
Card in the ATM Solutions Showcase at the NetWorld + Interop show in
Berlin, Germany, June 6-8,1994. In this demonstration, the Olicom product
will interoperate with ATM products from SynOptics, Novell and other ATM
suppliers.

Olicom develops and markets Token-Ring, Ethernet and ATM local area
networks. In the Token-Ring market, Olicom has established itself as the
world's leading independent supplier -- second only to IBM. The Olicom
products are known for their high performance, IBM compatibility and
interoperability, and are distributed worldwide by a network of strategic
partners and resellers. The company was founded in Denmark in 1985 and is
listed on the NASDAQ National Market System (symbol: OLCMF) in the United
States. Olicom revenues were $93.9 million in 1993.
