PANASONIC ANNOUNCES 40 PPM HIGH SPEED SCANNER
--WITH BUILT-IN PRINTER--
IN COMPACT, UPRIGHT DESIGN

NEW YORK, June 28, 1994--Panasonic Communications & Systems Co., a unit of
Matsushita Electric Corp. of America, announced today a combination
scanner and printer unit for high speed document imaging applications that
offers significant work space benefits over conventional flatbed scanner
devices.

The Panasonic KV-SP500 Series includes a simplex unit and a duplex version
that can scan both sides of paper. The SP500 Series process documents at
the rate of 40 pages-per-minute (ppm), ranging in size from business card
to legal, and in weight from onion skin to card stock.

Text and images are immediately compressed and stored in the computer's
memory via an industry standard Kofax image processing board. The LED
printer provides laser-quality plain paper output at nearly 4 ppm. The
SP500's 22H upright design leaves a small 17W x 15D footprint.

"The Panasonic design revolution continues forward with the extremely small
footprint of the SP500 scanner/printer, taking up less than half the desk
space of a conventional scanner, " said Tim Curran, vice-president for
Panasonic's Computer Products Group. "Its multi-functions are easy to use
and Kofax-compatible for fast, convenient installation."

The scanning function offers operator selectable resolutions from 150 to
350 dots-per-inch (dpi). The printing function produces 300 x 300 dpi.
Qualifying for EPA Energy Star designation, the SP500 products consume
less than 4.2 amps maximum.

Pricing and Availability

The KV-SP505 duplex model carries a suggested retail price of $6,499 and
the KV-SP500 simplex model of $5,499. The price/performance of these
models, according to Curran, compare very favorably with competitor
products costing up to $9,000. The products are available now through
authorized Panasonic resellers and distributors.

The market for document imaging equipment falls into primarily three
categories: archival imaging, technical documentation and emerging work
flow technology. The market opportunity for document imaging equipment is
estimated at $2.3 billion in 1994.

In the United States, Panasonic Communications & Systems Company markets an
extensive line of office automation equipment that also includes: laser,
