Pantone's ColorUP Provides High-Impact Color Presentations

Easy-to-Use, Media-Aware Colors Optimized for 35mm Slides, Color
Transparencies, Computer Screen Shows and Color Printers

PC EXPO, New York, NY June 28, 1994 (Booth # 409)-- Pantone, Inc. is
showcasing ColorUP, the color software utility developed to help business
professionals create high-impact color graphics for their presentations
and reports, here this week. The software is designed to complement
leading business graphics packages for both Windows and Macintosh
platforms by offering a wider range of color palettes and the ability to
add PANTONE Colors. ColorUP consists of two components, the ColorUP
Palette Chooser and the ColorUP Explorer. The Palette Chooser features a
comprehensive library of ready-to-use media-aware color palettes. The
Explorer is an interactive encyclopedia filled with color information and
experiments designed to improve users' understanding of color. how it
works and how to use color more effectively in business communications.

ColorUP features over 1,500 color palettes created by professional
designers specifically for use in business graphics. The palettes consist
of color combinations that work well together and have been thoroughly
tested for the primary forms of output media (35mm slides, transparencies,
screen shows and color hardcopy). The palettes are ready-to-use and can be
exported to popular Macintosh and Windows business presentation software
packages such as Harvard Graphics for Windows, Lotus Freelance for
Windows, Microsoft PowerPoint, Aldus Persuasion, Micrografx Charisma and
drawing programs including Adobe Illustrator, Aldus FreeHand and Corel
Draw.

The ColorUP Explorer is a self-guided "encyclopedia" featuring color
information and interactive experiments. The ColorUP Explorer offers
hands-on experience through visual demonstrations of various color
concepts such as dithering, printer reproduction and RGB and CMYK color
models. Included is information on color science, color psychology, color
harmony and tips on how to get the most out of color when creating
business presentation graphics.

"With color output becoming more prevalent, our research shows that
business users need a tool which will help them create powerful and
effective color visuals for presentations and reports." said Lawrence
Herbert. Pantone's president. "ColorUP provides such help."

John Evans, president of Evans Communications said, "I'm not a trained
graphic designer and ColorUP gives me a head start and an advantage in
creating presentations. ColorUP has helped me to significantly improve my
use of color, avoid making color mistakes in my output and has allowed me
to create excellent color palettes for many different programs. Since I
began using ColorUP I've gotten a lot more compliments on my use of
color."

Palette Previews

ColorUP offers 120 background colors and a collection of
professionally-designed palettes to complement each background color. This
allows business professionals to choose from a variety of color
backgrounds to select a distinct, well-balanced color scheme for their
business communication needs. Users select a background color, scroll
through the palettes provided and choose the one that is the most pleasing
to them. Each palette contains up to 16 colors, which have been
pre-assigned to the various graphical elements such as titles, subheads,
text, bullets. bar and pie chart components, so users don't have to guess
how the colors will be used together.

The software also provides a preview of sample business graphics. The
ability to visualize how a selected color palette will look when applied
to titles, bullet, pie and bar charts is an important time-saving feature.
This means that users don't have to guess how their own presentations will
look when the selected palette is applied. The user may also customize or
edit palettes by modifying a given color, rearranging color assignments,
or adding a solid PANTONE Color.

"More business professionals are creating their own color presentation
graphics, but some of them don't have a great deal of experience in this
area," said Paul Moskowitz, president at Jack Ward, a leading film imaging
service bureau based in New York. "At Jack Ward, we have over 20 years of
experience working with slides using both conventional and computer
graphics methods. Our customers are constantly asking us for advice about
what colors have the most impact and which ones work best together. Based
on our knowledge and experience in this area, we have worked closely with
Pantone to develop color palettes for ColorUP that will enable business
users to confidently select colors that work well together."

Media-Aware

Each palette in ColorUP is "media-aware," optimized for specific output
media such as 35mm slides, computer screen shows, transparencies or hard
copy so that colors are displayed for the best possible effect on a given
medium and for optimum readability. Depending on the output medium
selected, the user will be given a choice of appropriate color palettes.
The palettes are designed to ensure that the colors chosen work well for
the selected output medium and provide the best visual impact. "Something
may look good on screen, but in many cases the results can be dismal when
output to a printer or as a slide." said Andy Hatkoff, director of
business development at Pantone. One of the biggest problems users face is
the dependence on WYSIWYG, but very often what they see is not what they
get on slides or from printers. By providing media-aware color support in
ColorUP, we have taken these types of issues into account for the user."
